Has anybody just stopped and considered that we are all in our forties (or older) with families and real concerns, but yet we spend hours of our day hanging off every word delivered by an anonymous internet person who calls himself "Trilly"?

    We are all unserious people.

Honestly, if you stop and open the Pandora's box of all of it, we're hanging on the whims of people we have never met, will never met, and who are instrumental in our lives. By that I mean the players. And now they're all richer than most of us put together.

I used to think about this even back in my 20s. Now in my 40s I try just not to think about it.

Don't you dare. When I mentioned after a loss that life goes on and it isn't a huge deal I was crucified and suspended from the board until our next victory. Ball. Is. Life.

Just on the pet peeve level, and this is just me, but I can't stand the "eh, it doesn't matter, enjoy life!" set. (And by that I mean just as message board posters generally.)

You don't see them much. Most of us, just by nature of coming here, at least take it *pretty* seriously.

But there's nothing worse than some guy telling you that he doesn't take it seriously...which is another way of saying you shouldn't take it that seriously.

I mean if you don't care, don't come here. It's ridiculous. However on the other side of this, you have crazzed. So more of a middle game is probably best. And healthiest.

Kentucky basketball is really the only sport I go to the wall with. Like it takes up a lot of mental energy for me throughout any given year, and has been that way since I was a kid. I love the Reds, but they're so awful I don't spend a ton of time thinking about them. So that's one sport that takes up a lot of my time...and, honestly, it isn't really that difficult to dig in and be invested in one sport. There isn't a whole lot to sports generally, so a person can really get into them with very little skin in the game.

Well yeah. Ball is life, which is why we are all here.

It's still utterly ridiculous when you stop and think about it all. That's all I was saying.

Why would a kid with Wilkerson's talent have a huge decision to make? Look at Kentucky and Indiana's current roster and see the huge difference.

They're paying him considerably more money.

I understand that, but the possibilities of our success isn't even close. However if he has a cousin or uncle who won't get a cut, I guess more money is important.

I think the litmus test for when things are out of control is probably when a person is harassing people online. Players have shared some DM's over the last three or four years, and they're crazy. That's psychopathic behavior and is the embodiment of "taking it too far."

Or when you're in gambling debt because of it. OR (worse) when your family needs you and you can't attend to them because you're too locked in on a college basketball team.

Otherwise, if by "caring" you mean you get emotionally invested in the games, follow the stuff online, buy some t-shirts now and then...I mean that's all the joy of being a fan. And there are IMMENSE payoffs to all that just on a personal level.

I read obituaries for a living and it's amazing how many of the deceased in the Commonwealth end up with "a fan of UK basketball." A LARGE proportion of obits have that. I would want that on my obit. And that's all just to say: it matters to people. Nothing wrong with that.

I am a lifelong die hard Niners, Dodgers, Celtics fans as well as Kentucky. Back in the 80's if you would have asked me who was my favorite of all, I would have told you the 49ERS.

Now a days I still follow my teams but Kentucky basketball reigns above all.

Unless it's playoff time, I won't change my schedule to watch a PRO game but with Kentucky basketball, I will quit a job ,divorce a wife, or miss a funeral, all kinds of crazy stuff just to watch a Kentucky basketball game., insanity that offers very little reward.

Still, the success of Kentucky basketball still makes me feel proud as a Kentuckian.

Having met many people across the world I can say BOURBON or the KENTUCKY DERBY and it may ring a bell but when you mention Kentucky basketball, most are familiar.

I wouldn't quite bail on a wife or job to watch a UK basketball game. But, what Will said. There are no pro sports teams in this state. Yeah, Cincinnati is close (and I'm a lifelong Reds fan) but one common thing that can unite us all is Kentucky Basketball. Democrat, Republican, Atheist, Devout Christian, what have you. We can put it all aside for a couple hours a week and get behind our basketball team. It's really kind of hard to describe. It just matters. Go Big Blue.
