who do they think helped lead them into it??????

hope they get what they want so they can talk to the NCAA.
loooooosy......you got some splainin to do.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. I've said before...there is no scandal that would make most of their fanbase turn on their program or just admit how dirty it is and want to clean house. As for Jurich it's been reported he refused to fire Pitino even this time. Further proof that there simply is NOTHING that could happen within his athletic department that he would admit he should have known about and cleaned up. Still says he has done nothing wrong in the execution of his duties. Apparently the entirety of his job description is to hire coaches. I sure hope Mitch sees his job differently.

The interim president seems to want to finally get things right. But for Pitino to be on leave WITHOUT pay and Jurich on leave WITH pay...could they actually still be considering keeping him?

          impermissible benefit.

If the student decided to not play and get a history or any other degree, there's no problem.

The issue here is the shoe companies were funneling money or bribing in order for the player to represent them. That's where the bribery comes from.
the perpetuation of fraud is that the players tell the schools they are legit amateurs...which ends when you get paid.

Louisville per second is considered a victim of fraud. The issue they have is they helped facilitate paying a player while already on probation.
I think their assistance in helping facilitate eliminates their victim status, lol.

I think it's because of how their contracts are written. But what do I know.

I wondered that myself. I understand the misrepresentation of your amateur status but that seems more like a civil matter.

A highly ranked athlete taking money on the side is a tale as old as time in college sports.

I would certainly question the NCAA, but not the FBI.

Joe Nocera on why the FBI is involved, why Brian Bowen wasn't charged with bribery, and why the NCAA was left in the dark:

^^^Another interesting article. To me the question remains...when the FBI decided to let Blazer sing in order to catch "bigger fish"...were the fish really bigger criminals or did it just bring in some household or at least recognizable names?

I hope the overall result is a less slimy industry but still don't know whether it's the best use of federal resources. There have been a lot of vulnerable victims of ponzi schemes and other white collar crimes, along with drug crimes, etc. I wondered a few years ago why our congress spent so much time on PEDS in baseball. Fortunately--in this great country we're allowed to pose such questions without drawing the wrath of the feds. I'm glad we have them and all levels of law enforcement.

It may be because the interim president wants to review what, if any, reformation steps Jurich took following "ProstituteGate" to try to clean up the Athletic Dept.

I tend to think Jurich ends up being retained. There's a movement among the fanbase to try and keep him, and apparently some donors are on the bus. It's amazing how many times I personally have just been out in public the last three days and have heard people stand up for Jurich and seem confused as to why he was placed on leave.

If that's the case Bob Valvano may be in trouble.

I hope this doesn't come to pass. His dismissal felt like a win for reasons that transcend sports.

It's refreshing and somewhat inspiring to see A-holes of his magnitude get their comeuppance every now and then.

UL is capable of this. Pitino--you're out of "I didn't know about it's" and chances to quit embarrassing us--you're gone. Jurich--you've overseen every bit of it--but you've brought us more wins than Pitino has so you can stay.

Jurich granting an interview to WDRB was solely to try to save his job. He said IF he had known Pitino was coach #2, he would have fired him on the spot. UL lips moving again.

Seems he got Byron Crawford on board that bus. You get a team into a power conference--a seat at the big table--no matter how many rules (or laws) it takes to do it and at least one fanbase will break their backs to make excuses for you. Just a few days ago even Pat Forde realized he had to go. Then a large portion of their fans chimed in and reminded the rest they don't give a crap how bad scandal after scandal has made them look. Heck Pitino may even pull out his birth certificate and prove his name is not Coach 2. Does he really have to go?
