I can't believe Terry M would post this. Was he wanting sympathy for his friend? It seems like something personal that should not have been put on social media. JMO

I can't believe Pitino composed the message. It sounds very immature-much like something one of my former Jr. HS students would have written.
But ........ since Pitino shows no contrition and has little or no experience issuing apologies, maybe he did write it himself.
I thought about this. But, IMO, Strong doesn't seem like the kind of guy to let this stuff go on. Now, he may have not know, but it seems like he runs a tight ship and wants to do things the right way.
I respected Strong more than other UL coaches too but as Bill said above--Clint Hurtt was on his staff. The recruiting scandal he was in the middle of at Miami U. was as bad a recruiting scandal we had seen come out until UL upped the bar with hookers. Then this.
I'll ask again because it probably got overlooked and the thread has slowed down a little. Can someone explain what specific rules it would violate if a former player who didn't graduate donated money to a poor family with a son who's really good at basketball? Let's say KAT gave Zion's mom $50,000. What NCAA rule does that break and would it make him ineligible?
Edit: I know it's against the rules, I just want to know which rules.
Can’t believe no one yet has mentioned “Blue Chipsâ€........
Good one Matt, and Pitino was in the movie. I liked that movie. When all this came out, I immediately thought of Noltes speech at the end. Shaq got the car. Penny's Mom got the house. That IU dude's Dad got a tractor. Really no different here. Some players got sex and at least one got paid.

Just guessing but I'd say it's simply the rule about impermissible benefits.
Nobody can sway a player to a school, not even fans. It's essentially an NCAA violation when fans chant recruits' names at BBM.
If some agent of the school is working to push a player to said school, and that pushing includes money, then I would imagine the NCAA sees that as no different than a shoe company sending the kid envelopes full of cash.

Strictly speaking I guess KAT can do whatever he wants with his own money. But if the player wound up committing to UK it would definitely be viewed as an impermissible benefit from someone associated with the program. KAT certainly would not have to be employed by UK to be considered a representative or at least a booster.
I'm sure you're asking if that makes the player ineligible to go to another NCAA school as well. I would think it probably would because it would likely be assumed the act of kindness was because the kid can play ball. Maybe if KAT could prove he gave $50,000 to every poor family in his block it would change the ruling?
Lots of talking heads began yesterday to question whether or not crimes have been committed at all.
Shortly after someone asked Jay Bilas what, if anything, was criminal about all this, Matt Jones pipes up and says, “I’m beginning to wonder if there’s anything criminal about this.†Just happened to think of that all by yourself, huh Matt?
People working for State University are State employees and taking bribes as a state employee is a federal fraud offense. That was the one thing that stood out to me listening to the press conference.
Well I assume the FBI got tired of the NCAA having no teeth to clean up it's own membership. Otherwise they didn't have to go after the "bad actors" even when a wire fraud investigation lead them down this path. I admit that although a hated rival has been exposed for what they are I have wondered if this is what the feds should be spending their resources on.

If the young man doesn't go to UK, likely doesn't. Being a former player if the kid went to UK it would be looked at the same as a booster paying for a player.
impermissible benefit.
If the student decided to not play and get a history or any other degree, there's no problem.
The issue here is the shoe companies were funneling money or bribing in order for the player to represent them. That's where the bribery comes from.
the perpetuation of fraud is that the players tell the schools they are legit amateurs...which ends when you get paid.
Louisville per second is considered a victim of fraud. The issue they have is they helped facilitate paying a player while already on probation.
Unbelievable....I have long had a smack board type exchange with some folks on Louisville boards.....there is a large movement from many to kick Pitino further to the curb but keep Tom Jurich. In their words....He is the guy that can lead us out of this.
who do they think helped lead them into it??????
hope they get what they want so they can talk to the NCAA.
loooooosy......you got some splainin to do.
