58 Tom Ranieri. Was he Kentucky's first Academic All-American?

I don't know if he was the first, I think he was in the same class as Jim Kovach. They studied together and both won academic awards. I'll check it out and let you know.

Kentucky's Academic All-Americans through 1985. They had a large advantage of academic award winners over other SEC programs through 1985. Not sure what the numbers are currently. I'll post that graphic here too it was a quite astonishing to learn that we led everyone (including Vandy).

52 Kentucky football O-lineman Danny Neal (1969-72). Neal went on to 11 years in the NFL famously playing C-G for the Chicago Bears and blocking for Walter Payton. Served as captain his junior and senior years. He would later coach under Mike Ditka (one of Coach Ditka's only players to do so), and Buddy Ryan.
