Timing is everything. Men who would have been the giants of the sport have missed their window. Even Bill Curry could have been a giant once upon a time. He came long after his window had closed. The option he was trying to run would've worked several decades before he came to Kentucky, but the spread was cutting edge and made his offense look old and tired.

Little Tim Masthay tidbit. He was a big soccer player and after he gave up football has been coaching soccer. He gave my nephew some personal lessons and also got him interested in football. My nephew was a high level soccer player but gave it up in High School at Trinity to focus on place kicking. He set several school records and came real close to some state records. He's now the starting Place Kicker for Miami of Ohio.

                44 Mike Siganos, CB/KR (1974-77)
                Hometown: Norwalk, CT

UK: Holds records for most career punt returns in a game (nine), a season (43) and a career (113).
And he never, ever called for a fair catch," said Fran Curci, Siganos' head coach at Kentucky.

                Career:
                •Honorable Mention (AP) All-American 1977
                •FIrst Team All-SEC (AP & UPI), 1977
                Second Team All-SEC (AP & UPI), 1976
•First Team All Deep South, 1976
•Member of All-Century Football Team, 1990 (selection as best Defensive Back) during 100th Anniversary of Kentucky Football.
                •Hula Bowl All Star Game

•Invitation to Japan Bowl All Star Game
•Free Agent draft selection from the Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Colts, and was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger Cats Canadian Professional Football League (CFL). Played in the CFL.

                High School:
Siganos grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut, with a passion for sports and excelled in baseball, basketball and football. Focusing on football, he received a scholarship to St. Luke's High School, New Canaan, where he starred as their football running back.

His senior year he only played 19 out of 36 quarters. He was that good," pointed out Dick Whitcomb, Siganos' coach at St. Luke's who also lived in Norwalk at the time. "Every defense imaginable was concocted to stop him, but none of them worked." If he had attended public schools he would be a household name. Appeared in Sports Illustrated under the "Faces in The Crowd" feature.

Thank you, Matt! I enjoy learning more about UK Football in my travels. I have a lot of information already stored but could accumulate 100 times as much the more I read and travel the Internet. It saddens me that the legacy of many of the players is lost with their passing. I gather information from obituaries when available in addition to the public record. It's my shrine to UK Football to pass along the information I can find for younger fans to appreciate and have respect/reverence for the efforts and sacrifices made by those who sought to carve out a place in the record books for UK Football. I'm honored to pass it on!!.

I was surprised to learn that he held all those punt return records. I thought perhaps Derek Abney might have held some of them.
