Leaving the best for last??
43 Freshman iteration of former safety turned linebacker, DeAndre Square (he would later wear jersey numbers 17 and 5).
Hometown: Detroit, MI (Cass Tech)
A rare three-time Captain, Square was a different breed of Inside linebacker who used his game knowledge to read and react to the play providing coverage for both the pass and run. He sealed the bowl victory over Penn State with an interception as Penn State was driving for a score.
He celebrated in the Swamp in his freshman year, he would earn an All-SEC Freshman award for his early exploits even though he never started a game until the bowl.👍 2Comment

42 Houston Hogg, Jr. TB (1967-70)
Hometown: Hazard, Kentucky (started at Hazard High School where he played quarterback and
linebacker then finished his prep career at Daviess County in Owensboro, KY where he would play runningback).
A civil rights pioneer (along with three other black players) who was recruited to Kentucky to break the color barrier in the SEC. Kentucky's governor was instrumental in the push to get black players to the University of Kentucky. He and the University President launched a campaign to insure that it was accomplished
on their watch.
Hogg said that he never experienced any racism while playing at Hazard or Daviess County, but that changed when he got to UK. The worst part of his experience appears to have been the death threats that he and his black teammates received while they were on the road in the SEC. He recounted stories of state troopers guarding the motel when they were out of town and being refused service as a team in restaurants because of their policies still resistant to the equality afforded by the civil rights legislation.
