60 Dave Roller
21 Sep 68
UK Nose Guard Dave Roller, 60, helps teammate Jeff Van Note, on ground, throw Missouri quarterback McMillan for a loss in Saturday's UK win. Roller was named AP's SEC Lineman if the week for his performance. Published Tuesday, September 24, 1968 (The Kentucky Kernel).
Also a picture of the program from that game.
A picture of Roller and teammates from the game program for the Tennessee game.
The schedule on that program includes Oregon State, whose DL coach was Rich Brooks. I assume that was his first visit to Lexington. Oregon State was ranked #20 but Kentucky beat them. A 17-13 loss at Southern Cal was all that kept them from an undefeated Pac 8 season and championship that year. Oregon State beat three ranked teams that year (#18 Utah, #15 UCLA, and #16 Oregon). Oregon State finished ranked #15 in the final AP poll but the Pac 8 and Big Ten only allowed one team to go to a bowl game back then.
Those Missouri and Oregon State teams were among the top 20 in the country but Kentucky beat them both.Last edited by Old School; 07-01-2025, 11:50 AM.👍 2Comment

Thanks for the update on that post, it was copied from the student newspaper (The Kentucky Kernel). I didn't have personal knowledge of that game but have gathered what I could from UK Archives/digital library and other online sources (opponent websites, eBay and other auction sites that sell sports memorabilia, and others instrumental in providing team coverage regionally and nationally).
Found this to followup (I'm going to attribute it to either the 1969 UK Football Media Guide or a game program).
