I am 100% convinced Rick Pitino will survive the year and retire "gracefully" at the end of it. He is getting cover today from Ramsey and Jurich.
There is no shame in that city or that university. None whatsoever. I am ashamed to have worked there and my daughter told me this week how she is ashamed to admit that is where one of her degrees is from.
They are a disgusting lot.Comment

I agree.... I know a lot of people are calling for it but I don't see Pitino leaving. Maybe (hopefully) I will be wrong.Comment

The chance of a graceful retirement are gone.
Best he can hope for is that some of his friends in the media--Forde--will sort of gloss over the scandal with a "yeah, but look at his record" kind of thing when he does bow out, but this has gotten too big, and it comes too closely on the heels of the Karen Sypher ordeal, for it not to (I'm sorry) stain his legacy.
The issue really isn't Pitino, but Jurich. Jurich has worked up enough cache in Louisville to essentially be untouchable. Without Jurich, Pitino could have the same record and would've been fired last week. But Jurich is kind of a Midas figure.Comment

The local media other than Bozich is providing cover. WDRB General Mgr, the totally stupid article from Crawford (using the Duke Lacrosse example...WTH), Meiners, local sports anchors. I am sure Sullivan will join in after becoming disgusted with UK fans criticizing the win at all cost stuff and saying we were worse. The national guys mean nothing to this bunch. They have defied hem for years and get away with it. They will do it again.
Pitino will get cover here and be able to withstand anything here because Jurich will demand it. And make no mistake or never doubt the power of Jurich in Louisville. He should be held as responsible for that culture but will escape with the title of world's greatest AD intact. Always works that way.
The ONLY possible way this turns against any of that scum is a paper trail or the BOT flushing Ramsey, Jurich and Pitino together. Even our chicken biscuit Governor has told UL to clean it up.
I think UL will get sanctioned in some way. Has to. But Rick Pitino will be allowed to maintain his "dignity" if Tom Jurich has his way. And Tom Jurich always has his way.Comment

Jurich no doubt controls the media, but I don't think the local Louisville media registers much nationally.
It is true that Pitino will get a much more graceful retirement than Cal. Both have their detractors and fans in the media, but the criticism about Cal has always been louder. (He brings some of it on himself.)
I think with Cal there's always this unspoken sentiment of "He didn't earn it." People don't like when guys load up with talent and win. Pitino has always been seen as this master tactician, and when you're a genius--in sports and in life--you tend to get more of a pass when you screw up.Comment

The Washington Post absolutely guts Pitino.
You beat me again. I came here to post that article. Really good and funny. I don't usually care for Sally Jenkins but this is gold.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

LMAO!!! Great article by the young lady. Having read it twice, why am I now getting the feeling that watching Ramsey, Jurich, and Pitino deal with this is like being thrust into the center of a Three Stooges episode??Last edited by Uncle Dave; 10-21-2015, 06:23 PM.Comment
