And if the NCAA is going around and threatening current players' eligibility, it's already become a pretty big deal.

And that's undoubtedly what they're doing with Lyle and Blakeney. I assume they'll talk to Rodney Purvis as well, because he's mentioned in the book. There's nothing they can do with former players, but there's a whole lot of leverage the NCAA has over guys who still have eligibility.

I have heard stories of Universities providing girls to recruits all the time. But it is usually young girls that go to the school. Those schools never seem to get into trouble for it. Lane Kiffen had a dust up about it , when he was Tennessee. Those schools always seem to keep it from getting too public. If I had a daughter attending a university, I would prefer that they seek outside entertainment for the recruits instead of coercing the coeds that attend the school. Not saying that that it should be done in the first place, but it is better than coercing the female student body to provide the perks.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Pitino go down in flames for all this....but you are right...I love beating him every year

This will cripple UofL's program, if it gets this far. I don't, however, see anything in there about taking down their '13 banner. What would it take for that to happen?
Andy Katz's three-point shot today is all about the Louisville scandal. Katz spoke to an NCAA expert who gave him the rundown on the penalties the Cards could

I don't think the NCAA will ever take down a banner unless its found a school was actually cutting checks and giving them to the players twice a month.

It has never happened to a basketball program. Happened to USC's football team in 2004.

Football though, wasn't an official championship until last season. It was the BCS championship in 2004 and I don't think the NCAA handed out a trophy for that.

Seth Davis tweeted out that he thought and has heard that this is a Level 1 infraction. (Worse kind). I don't think anything is off the board, but it is the NCAA after all.

IMO, Jurich and Pitino need to go. They won't but they should. This is a systemic problem at that university and Jurich has allowed it to happen. From football taking in damaged goods, dead addicts in football dorm to hiring a known problem child with an immoral past that committed fraud in his own athletic department to hiring a coach with a show cause. The basketball side is obvious.

Ramsey is backing Jurich abut showing no signs of supporting Pitino. However, the UL BOT has hired it's own investigators and this is not good news for Jurich or Ramsey.

The one aspect not being discussed much (and I have heard some rumblings from the mouth of a horse) is the sponsorships. Really, all it takes is one of the big boys like John Schnatter, YUM, Jim Patterson, Owsley Brown Foundation, Trager Foundation, etc... to tell UL to clean it up, clean it out or the well runs dry and they will not have a choice. It will have to happen.

Something will happen for sure. Will it be what it should be? Usually never is. However, UL is overdue for a much needed enema for sins that have been purposely ignored for years because the local media was controlled by Jurich and the boys, That seems to be coming to an end somewhat because you cannot even hide the obvious.

As for the fans. Well, most are like all fans. They don't want to believe it. They don't want to acknowledge it. The rational ones will tell you that the rat's nest should be cleaned out because it is an embarrassment to the university and the city. But you will have idiots that will spin it to blame everyone but who is at fault.

I was born and raised in Louisville. I worked for the university during the Crum regime. I know these people. And I know what they think of UK. I hope they burn.

                  One last thing.

I have been a harsh critic of Mitch Barnhart and some of his decisions or non-decisions. I also admire his good works. But I will say this today. I am GLAD that this man is running our athletics. He is a man of morals and conviction who works hard at his trade and we should ALL be proud of that and VERY GLAD we don't have scum Like Tom Jurich running the University of Kentucky in the ground like he is doing to his own.

I don't think so if they get a post season ban. It would likely be for three or so years and I think that would turn the better coaches away. Plus, I believe Stevens is having solid success and is well supported but I could be wrong as I don't follow the NBA. It might be a few years of losing records to drive him back to college.

Great post Bob. I was thinking the same thing about the BOT hiring their own investigator, and how this probably shows their feelings about Ramsey and Jurich. Also, I've been glad we have Barnhart from the beginning. He is certainly not perfect, but I think he's honestly trying to build the athletic program at UK with integrity.
