It won't matter that much for Pitino as I think he'll be forced to resign at some point. But it might matter w/r/t the severity of Louisville's punishment. If the NCAA can't get the main guy to talk then they'll have to rely on these players to corroborate the story, and some have. But they'll not be able to trace the money trail unless somebody at UofL squeals, and I doubt that happens.
The best-case scenario for Pitino and UofL is for McGee to say, "I did it. The money was mine. I set everything up." But the second best option is for him to just vehemently deny it.
