In fullness of truth, I don't think UL CAN fire Rick, just now. Regardless of how their investigation turns out, if you fire him now, who replaces him?
You can't just appoint an assistant. Because, if you're firing the coach for these transgressions, and you know another coach was involved in it, then you have to clean house. Which I think they will eventually do.
But, it's too late into the season to grab a coach, and put together a staff. Any reasonable coach is employed. The market is closed.
You're less than a month from jumping it up.
I still believe the investigation doesn't conclude till February or so. UL will self impose a post season ban for this year, with lsnguage of other penalties to be described later (ie another post season ban, and since they're going to suck, it wont matter. But will look good. Probably lose two scollies for two years, and appoint a new position of compliance and oversight that reports to the president)
...and Pitino will announce his resignation at the conclusion of the season.
UL will get to make money from this season, because the stands will be full of fans who think little or nothing is going to happen. And the bad news will come at the end of the year, so as to be sure they got the ticket revenue from this year.
UL will hire someone decent to rebuild, a whole staff, and give them a four year deal with the understanding that losing is expected. And in two years, they'll be a tourney team again.Last edited by Katmendo; 10-21-2015, 08:53 PM.Comment

But UofL is going to have a hard time hiring a decent coach at all in the near future. Down the road, sure. Big-time job, big-time conference.
But there are going to be some sanctions with this, and a good coach isn't going to be willing to step into that mess. The fans I hear on the radio who are fed up with Pitino--and there are a lot of them--are talking about Brad Stevens. That's pipe dream territory. They're more than likely going to have to go the route that IU and Tennessee have had to go after their debacles, and that's hire a patchwork coach to come in and weather the storm for a little bit.Comment

No I hadn't seen it. Every English teacher in the last 200 years are spinning in their grave right now.
Like his picture. I assume that was a parting gift from Louisville in appreciation of his time spent there.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

That picture has always cracked me up. It's more '80s-looking that pictures that were actually taken in the '80s.
Everybody's wearing a leather jacket. The sweet leather sofa. Those eight-inch heels. The guy out of the frame wearing what look like stone washed jeans. Even the tint of the black and white is odd.
I keep looking for Darrell Griffith to stroll through in the background.👍 1Comment
