Just looked it up. His other son, Hercy, was the one at louisville for a year. He's now at Southern Utah.

Ortega Oweh was absolutely a role player at Oklahoma.

      Silas Demaree and Gwak…are not.

Agreed. My point was general that if we do target role players they can develop. Silas and Gwak are definitely more.

It's Gwath. And he averaged 8-5 for a 10 loss Mountain West team. That's a role player.

He was freshman of the year for the conference, though.

                Defensive animal, a la Butler.

                    Athletic, for sure. Upside.

But my point remains: if we want to take the next step, we need to upgrade. With more time and resources to work the portal, I thought Pope and Co. would be really adamant on landing instant impact top transfers.

Is Gwath an upgrade on Williams?
                    Demary an upgrade on Butler?

It's clear that Pope knows what he wants and this year proved that he could scout guys for his system, but still. Color me underwhelmed thus far. Plenty of time and lots of guys that haven't even entered the portal.

The only "agenda" I have is an interest in upgrading the talent on our roster.

You can only do so much through the portal. You need a mix of returners, impact freshmen, and transfers. That’s how all these Elite 8/Final Four teams did it…and that’s the way it’s going to be for the foreseeable future.

Let's not act like a bunch of All-Americans are entering the portal. You've got guys who play a little at a smaller school, show they can play, and want a better opportunity with more money. How many guys in the portal would be an upgrade on what Williams did for us this year? These are also guys who have more than one year eligibility. Pope is building a program, not year by year patch work.

I get what he's trying to do by building for the future. I like that some of these guys that he's targeting are younger. Seems like the formula.

With that said, we've gotta have some ready for prime time stars, which is why retaining Oweh is so important. Pope already lost Caleb Wilson and he's probably going to lose Nate Ament, so if he's not going to do with it with diaper dandies, it has to be through the portal.

You can apparently make a Sweet 16 team with the portal in two weeks.

Hard to tell if they’re upgrades on paper. You were convinced all year last year’s roster was composed of randos. How do you know these guys won’t be the same, or better?

But regardless, your definition of role player is WAY too loose.
