On Cards radio this morning, Drew Deener said that he's for keeping Pitino because he and Jurich run their program the right way and the way it should be run.

There's no way he said that with a straight face.

He said, "I can hear UK fans scoffing as I say this..." before he said it.

I can see some arguments for keeping Pitino. He probably didn't know about this, or at least he didn't know the full extent of it. I highly doubt he was the person putting money into that account. And he's definitely right in that a firing or a resignation really does nothing to fix the situation.

But keeping him because he and the AD run their program the right way? Come on.

On the flipside, I've been listening to Tony Vanetti and his partner on 790 KRD on my drive home from work.

They've both been adamant that Pitino has to go. Vanetti even gets a few irate UofL fans, and he'll defend his position pretty thoroughly. So it's not all homerism. Most of the print media, too, has advocated for Pitino's firing.

I think Katmendo hit on it above, though. What if you fire Pitino and then next week it comes out that Mike Balado definitely had something to do with this? Do you fire him too? It's a tricky situation simply because they don't know exactly who was or wasn't directly involved.

Pitino is the head coach. Even if he wasn't involved, he was involved.

Yeah but if someone on the staff were involved, he obviously has to go.

It's another reason I imagine they want McGee to talk. If he can take the brunt of it, then they can at least get in the season, work something out for Pitino so that he resigns with some dignity, and then work on how to circumvent any big-time punishment.

If you fire Pitino today--something I still think is possibly--you might set yourself up for some major headaches when somebody like Terry Rozier says, "Well, Mike Balado was the guy Andre McGee went to when he needed cash." Then Balado has to go. And it's just a mess.

I think they'll probably end up just trying to hunker down and wait.

Billy Reed (GASP) comes out firing this morning, saying that Pitino AND Jurich need to pack their bags and leave town.

                    Hell has officially frozen over.

At this point I think I would really miss the entertainment if they cleaned house. They give us a lot of ammo. And for the foreseeable future at least probably not a lot of competition on the court or recruiting trail. I am not glad the world is this screwed up but since it is we might as well get a kick out of UofHell.

False, huh? That adds an extra wrinkle or two.

Well it at least shows that he is not--as of yet anyway--willing to fall on the sword to protect his former employer like they were hoping. Probably means its going to get as ugly as the former employer had feared. The scapegoat ain't ready to fall. Now, will he claim its all false allegations by a Ho or just that he is not the sole responsible party?
