If I read his bio correctly he hasn't played a competitive game since July 2016 which was for the USA U18 team? There should be some film from that even if the pro scouts weren't there in person. He might not be as unknown as I originally thought.

This is true. And if he doesn't come back, Cal deserves every bit of criticism he takes for it. He essentially hinged the success of next year's team on a kid who bolted before the season started.
But, I tend to believe he's coming back - it's hard to see the NBA take a first round pick on a kid who hasn't played a competitive game above the high school level.
I might just gamble.Comment

Zagoria's article yesterday quoted a couple of execs who said they were eager to see what Diallo could bring. If this were the LeBron era and all these kids were coming out of high school it would be one thing. But in this era when you've got so many players who've competed against men on the college level this is an unusual deal.
It's one reason these kids who go from high school to Europe get dinged in their draft spots. Not as many eyes on them.Comment

I wouldnt be so sure. There's a flip side to that coin. If I'm a good team, and I see a kid that I think might just be a lottery guy next year, and I'm picking late first,...AND I expect to have a good season that would put him out of reach next year
I might just gamble.
They could see it like they see some of these Euros who are 17 or 18 and they know won't play in the NBA for another couple of years. Grab him, put him in the D-League for a year, then have him ready the next season.
I'd be a little more worried about this if Diallo were a seven footer, but it's still something to consider--particularly if he just kills it at the combine.Comment

It's just that I suspect you're making yet another grandiose claim based on absolutely nothing other than your UK fanhood. That's fine. We're all fans here. But as far as you knowing for a fact that "They have been on him for several years," I call BS.Comment

OK, here's just one little snippet that was as easy to find as entering his name;

Unless you know more than that writer and he's overlooking the years' worth of NBA scouting reports on Diallo, it doesn't sound like too many NBA guys have studied his game beyond his last high school season.
Keep digging.Last edited by George; 05-03-2017, 01:14 PM.Comment

Yeah, and that's a way of you calling me a liar. And this is a way of my saying you can kiss my ass!!
"Now NBA teams have been scouting Diallo all high school season. More than 20 were at the National Prep Showcase in November to see him play, but that is such a small sample size that the scouts aren’t going to have a complete feel for his game."
That's from the article that you are too closed minded to look for.
So just sit on your fat ass and attack some more.Comment
