You guys flip topics so often it's hard for an old guy to keep up.Did I miss something about Dialo hiring an agent? The jest of the board is, he's gone, or is everybody speculating?

It's the same as it was last week. Hasn't hired an agent yet and nobody knows what he might do.Comment

It looks like Hamidou Diallo won’t be competing at the NBA Draft Combine after all.
According to DraftExpress, Diallo will attend the combine but not take part in 5-on-5 competition. That would seem to indicate Diallo wants to keep his stock where it’s at and not risk hurting it.
Because the Kentucky Wildcats landed Kevin Knox on Saturday, one has to wonder what effect it will have on Diallo. Knox will now almost certainly occupy the starting 3 spot next season, not to mention take on a major role on the perimeter, which could lessen Diallo’s role and therefore hurt his draft stock in 2018.
Both players are more than capable of playing together, but Diallo may not want to take that chance and risk having a reduced role next season. He also wants to be in the NBA right now and have the security of a guaranteed contract, something he’ll get if he’s a late first or early second-round pick in the 2017 draft.
If Diallo thinks he’s already going to be drafted in that range, then it makes sense for him to pass on competing at the combine and risk hurting his stock.
Despite the report from his prep-school coach that he is 90% sure Diallo is coming back to UK, I think Diallo was slightly leaning towards staying in the draft before Saturday, and once Knox committed, he’s now planning to stay in the draft.
I still expect Diallo to wait right up until that May 24th deadline before making a decision. Perhaps enough things will change in the next few weeks that Diallo realizes coming back is his best option, but don’t get your hopes up on it.

Sorry, but no freaking way i draft a kid who won't compete and show the world what he has. Guards 6'6 are a dime a dozen and how many star college players have failed in the NBA? How many NBA teams have handed out nice contracts to get burned over the years? Is he physically strong enough to play in the big leagues at this time?
Is this kid better than Doron Lamb? What about James Young?Comment

Knox coming doesn't lessen Diallo's role one bit.Comment

JWorld- speaking of James Young, I see him out there playing for the Celtics during garbage time are you suggesting Ham's career may mirror his? Hmmm....
That's gotta be a tough decision. On one hand he came out early got some pointers learned from practicing, but his last tape is HS and AAU ball and this draft is deep so you should play 5-on-5 (Briscoe is playing and they know what he can/can not do during big games) but on the other hand, what if these players show you up then what? So no don't play just do drills, interview questions etc.
But I think if Diallo comes back and if by some miracle we get Bamba, knowing the lanscape of who left other schools and who's coming in, I believe next season is WIDE OPEN...we gotta shot at the championship.

^ Most players who are drafted in the first round don't do the five-on-five thing.
That's not their decision as much as it is one that's allowed by the NBA. If the NBA thought it mattered, they'd make them all play. They don't, so you can't blame the players for opting out of that. Millions of dollars are at stake.
Who knows what Diallo can or can't be. But just naming a bunch of players that he might be like is meaningless. I'm apathetic about him if he goes--I don't consider him a UK player obviously, but I have no ill will toward him. My family might have played it in the same way.Comment

How common is it for players who haven't played a competitive game in a year or so to get drafted and not play in the five on five?

But Diallo played competitive games in December. He was on a prep team. His situation would be akin to these players who were jumping out of high school before the one-and-done rule.Comment
