He may have been concerned about playing time at UK or KU. After all he did state he wants to use the upcoming season to enhance his chances in next year's NBA draft.

Add Evan Daniels to the (growing) list of people who think Cal may strike out.

Yeah I think so too, but you never know till they actually commit....and even then you don't lol...

I still think UK gets one of Brown/Newman/Ingram...and get Mulder. Still would like to have another front court guy with bulk. Alex may have to play 40 mins per game next year and avg 12-14 rebs per....

I'm sorry but that was real genius move by Thorne. You have 1 more year left and you say you want to enhance your possible draft stock and get ready for the next level, so the way you do that is to go Illinois!?

Where do you get the idea that we had any depth in 2013? That was one of the major downfalls. Someone wasn't paying attention.

Actually there's been some ground made up in the past week as Cal has been hitting the trail, particularly with Diallo.

Just reading the tea leaves, Newman looks like a strong lean to stay in Carolina at this point. Brown is an unknown but the adidas comments in the past are troubling. Newman is a complete and total enigma.

I think we end up with Mulder and one of Diallo/Brown/Newman. I like the Murray kid a lot but those quick reclassify-then-sign don't often work out for UK.

If it does go that way then Kentucky could end up with two of the best three players in the class if we land Diallo. The Diallo/Skal front line is .

Still don't think Cal strikes out. You'll notice the "Kentucky may not get any of them" stuff generally comes out when Kentucky is inside a tournament run and the other teams are recruiting. Once Cal gets in these kids' living rooms most of the time the experts are like, "Well, Kentucky's gaining some ground."

Of course they're gaining ground. Haven't been able to recruit for the past two months because of, you know, history.

I don't think we'll get Murray and Mulder, more likely either or, with Mulder most likely. If Cal could somehow get Mulder, Murray, and Diallo then it's freakin on.....

I would be ecstatic with Mulder or Murray and Diallo....obviously. And I don't think it's as unlikely as some do

The way Diallo has played this summer is good for UK.

Cal has had amazing success obviously with players like him. Chris Mullin has never coached a single game. You would have to think the UK coaching staff is in Diallo's ear about this run of #1 picks and if you aren't swayed by that then you aren't listening.

The Slice connection is way overblown. This will come to Mullin and Cal. St. John's is going to pitch him on the idea of growing their program around him and Diallo being the face of a rebirth. Cal has the opposite to sell: Diallo being the next in line.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out but we still have five elite players up on the board. Everybody but Zimmerman that Kentucky has focused in on from the beginning is still available. Decent odds even with some of the concerns a couple of these guys have.

Scout's Evan Daniels was on Tom Leach's show this morning.

He said:

Newman is likely headed to Miss St at this point. Said UK isn't totally out of the picture but he would be surprised if he chose UK.
Jaylen Brown - said there is no indication with him. No plans (per Brown's mom) to make any visits or set a date at this time. Daniels said it could be any of the 8 schools but the safe bet is an Adidas school
Ingram - not going to UK, staying in NC at either Duke or UNC
Diallo - said he is the player UK has the best shot with. UK is selling their history with bigs and making a huge push for him. Said he believes it's 50/50 between UK and St. Johns right now
Mulder - visiting UK soon, said if Cal really wants him he thinks he ends up a Cat.

Not real encouraging information.

More fin insight....would be absolutely shocking for Cal to miss on all of these guys. But, options are very quickly running out.
