I think if he re-classifies it's a decent chance it's because he wants to play for UK. From everything I read, even his HS coach doesn't think that he really wants to re-classify, but when a team like UK wants you to, it makes it a little harder of a decision. He probably wouldn't even be considering re-classifying if it wasn't for people wanting/needing him so much all of a sudden.

Not reclassifying would be a strange decision given his age. Would be 20 when he's drafted. Cuts a full year off your earning potential, and body-wise he looks more than ready to play at this level.
You sort of wish Ingram would go ahead and pick Duke so that you maybe clear them out of the way in his thought process.Comment

Maybe not such terrible news after all.

No doubt, he still has a top 3 recruiting class and they'll make it sound like he's lost his touch.Comment

Ouch..never thought I would see the day when we lose recruits to Miss State
But I guess it is good for the SECComment

I think as a whole UK fans are spoiled. I keep reading things like "I never thought we would lose a recruit ti Miss St" and "How is Oregon in the same conversation with Kentucky." I think Cal has us under the impression that he can get any kid he pleases to, but that isnt the case. Sometimes you have a kid relate better to a different coaching staff, want to play at their father's alma matter in their home town, want a certain brand, etc. I know Cal has insane numbers and stats about getting people in the NBA, but the majority of these kids will be getting to the NBA with or without Kentucky and Cal. We act like he is taking players that would never be considered by the NBA and making them stars. Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Knight, Davis, MKG, Noel, Goodwin, the list goes on and on and on would all be in the NBA if they chose somewhere other than Kentucky. Newman will get to the NBA, Brown will, Diallo will. They dont HAVE to come to UK to get to the NBA. It sucks not having our pick of the litter, but in reality these guys dont need Kentucky as bad as we need them.Comment

This is an excellent post. I nearly posted the same thing yesterday. When it comes to the late first round, or early second round, there might be some advantage to having played for UK. As teamchemistry15 stated, though, the first 15-20 players are going to be drafted whether or not they played for UK.
I agree to a point, but every year a few guys get drafted that may not have if they went to a different school, and I don't just mean UK, but Duke and others are also in this conversation.
If anyone on here can say that if Tyus Jones went to UNLV or Oregon or Mississippi State this season that he would be a projected first rounder, you need to share what you are smoking. My point is not that "Duke" or Coach K is what made him better, he did it on his own, but when you are on a team that makes a tournament run and can showcase your talent it makes all the difference in the world. He wasn't even in the first round conversation until he made that great run in the tournament, and if he was on a lessor team that chance wouldn't have been there.
You can also throw Teague into this conversation, If he wasn't on that 2012 team surrounded by that talent, he would'nt have been a first rounder.
So although most of the time no matter where a kid goes he will still get drafted, it can make a difference how high they go. If kids think that going to a team where they are by far the best player is what is best for them, it's not always the truth. Bottomline, you get better by playing against better players

I believe you just reinforced my and teamchemistry15's point. As I stated, late first rounder or later there may be an advantage to playing for a UK, Duke, etc., but the players that go early in the first round would have been drafted anyway.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

Depends on what you define by "early". Top 5 guys - yeah, probably. After that I disagree...look at Booker, he is projected around 15-17. If he was at any other school he would be returning for a second season.
Also, one thing you are forgetting - it's not just about getting drafted, the even bigger money is in sponsorships. Wall, Davis, etc...players that come from big time programs who are featured all throughout the year get HUGE money. Wall got something like a $25 million deal with Reebok when he was drafted #1. Anthony Bennett from UNLV who nobody watched or cared about got like $6 million. Nobody is going to throw huge money at guys who played at Cal, UNLV, Miss St, Oregon, etc...unless they end up being a total superstar even if they are a top 5-10 pick.Comment

This is a subject can can be debated so much just due to it's subjectivity.
I guess in my mind when I say top players of the class I am thinking top 5-10.
But really this all comes back to how the recruiting analysts rank these kids, and if they get it right or not, it's pretty rare that the #1 or #2 kid doesn't end up as a top pick but after that, it's a guessing game.
But you can also argue that in another direction....the twins were top 5 recruits, and will most likely both be second rounders after their SECOND season. Would they have done better at a lower profile school? I don't think so, but does that mean that they underachieved or were just over-hyped by people that watched them in high school?
So I guess my point is that I can argue both sides that it does help or hurt kids depending on where they go to school. But the hype is what is so subjective...Chris Walker was only ranked one behind Jabari Parker, and we've all seen how that has worked out.
I wish I was either a recruiting analyst or a Meteorologist because no matter what you are never fired for being wrong.
