How many of these guys have you heard of or have contributed in college basketball?

Jordan Goodman, Torian Graham, Shane Henry, Chris Thomas, Chris Jones, Jelan Kendrick ,DeVille Smith, Yanick Moreira, JT Terrell, Geron Johnson, Jason Carter, Cleanthony Early, Kadeem Allen, Titue Rubles....

All these guys were TOP five JUCO players the past few years...95% of JUCO guys don't amount to anything other than (at best) a mediocre contributor.
Cleanthony Early? Really. Guy torched UK for 31 points in the 2014 tournament. 2nd team All America. 24 & 10 vs UL in the Final Four in 2013. Yeah I would say he contributed a little.

            Regarding JUCOs:

I wouldn't pay much attention to the JUCO ratings, particularly because Mulder came from Canada and there were unknowns about him coming in. I don't think JUCO Junction and all those sites rank JUCOs that accurately simply because they don't have the manpower. I highly doubt there are many analysts out there on the junior college beat.

One thing about Mulder is that he's got great size. He's long and athletic and he's put up pretty good shooting numbers. All good signs. The one thing that you see that's almost universal with JUCO players is that they take time. Josh Harrellson on line one. This guy is likely not going to come in and be a main player. But he might be an important piece by the time '16 rolls around the way Dale Brown was his senior year, and that would be worth it.

For this team to be a main player next year, we're probably going to need more.

JUCO's usually don't help that much. Some do but most do not. JUCO's usually have a hard time adjusting to the high D-1 level. In the JUCO ranks these teams play a free wheeling style with not much defense. Its very hard for them to adjust to the defense that is played at the high D-1 level. For the ones that do well it would normally take them a year to adjust. As Will pointed out Brown was a prime example of this. Antwain Barbour never adjusted well and was a very medicore player at this level. I think Cal is just trying to find players to fill out a roster if none these better players decide to come to UK. Let's hope he gets one or two of them or next season could be a struggle.

This is an Insider article written by Jeff Borzello. Since it's subscription-only, you can only get the first couple of paragraphs. The first part touches on Malik Newman and the possibility of playing overseas. I read a post a week ago from a knowledgeable Kentucky fan who said that Newman may never play in college.

There are also some tidbits on here (quoted by other people) about Jaylen Brown. Apparently nobody knows what Brown is going to do and Borzello quotes some coaches as saying he "won't talk to anybody."

This is a very strange class. If there were ever a class that would shun Calipari and UK, this is it. Very reminiscent of 2013 in terms of the personalities and how some of these kids appear to be on lockdown.

Doesn't necessarily mean a college announcement but,

Hearing we could possibly get an announcement from @iammaliknewman by the end of the week. We shall see.

Looks like Newman is heading to college and will announce on Friday....I say Miss St unfortunately. Newman and Zimmerman were locks to UK a few months ago, going to be crazy that Cal will lose them both most likely.

Not sure how long it's been since anybody's been in to see Newman. The last movement I heard on him was his father talking about Ben Howland's hiring, and those quotes didn't sound too good for UK.

I read the exact same things you read. I don't think I've ever heard either of those guys described as "locks" until Zimmerman committed.

You follow recruiting like I do: nobody's a lock until they actually commit. I read as much Kansas and Arizona stuff about Zimmerman in the early stage of his recruiting than I did UK.

Kentucky got in on Newman early, but I would never have called him a lock. I think it was always just assumed he would come to Kentucky because it's Cal and Kentucky, but that's a far different thing than a lock.

With both those guys we're fighting with hometown and homestate schools. History shows that even for Cal that proves to be shaky territory. In Newman's case you have his father's history with Mississippi State. You have to think they fired Rick Ray just to make a hard run at Newman considering Howland's history with players like Newman.

Not an easy set of circumstances to overcome.

Thon Maker will not play overseas, most likely not attending college until second semester. Arizona St could be a player in this.

I want to think the Diallo news is good because Cal and his staff were the last to see him. (This is assuming Self doesn't make another visit.)

Looks like most think that St. John's is out of the picture at this point and it's between UK and KU.

Rumors now out there that Diallo could announce today. A lot of KU buzz for him right now....

Update: Now a KU blog is saying Diallo to KU and will announce today or tomorrow.
