Hmmm, nothing much coming across my Twitter on Diallo.

Bunch of stuff about Newman's press conference.

(I have to admit when you watch Diallo he strikes me as a Kansas-type big. They've had a bunch of guys who play very similarly.)

Supposedly Howland met with Malik and his father recently and the meeting went very well according to those "in the know". The get together lasted for over 3 hours. Howland told Malik about how he helped Russell Westbrook get prepared for the NBA. Newman being a combo guard much like Westbrook is.

I hope somebody has been in Newman's ear with the article George Dohrmann wrote about Howland when Howland's career was deathspiraling at UCLA.

Apparently Howland detested Westbrook and most of his players. Dorhmann claims that Howland had a total inability and unwillingness to engage with them on a personal level, and as soon as practice was over would rush out of the gym and take the staff elevator so that he didn't have to speak to them. Howland once had a referee call Westbrook for a uniform violation (he was wearing non-NCAA-sanctioned socks) so that the ref would make Westbrook sit out. Howland didn't want to have to personally take him out of the game.

If they get Diallo and Brown (who knows with him), wow...they go from being possibly terrible next year to maybe preseason #1. Diallo started following Perry Ellis this morning (for what it's worth) on Twitter.

I really thought Cal "striking out" was not realistic. But, now, I really think he is going to miss on all of these guys. Just crazy

The fact that Cal has shifted his attention to recruiting Malik Monk, Kobi Simmons and Tatum for 2016 could be an indication that he knows what's left of this class is not coming to Kentucky. As I said in another comment recently, I believe that if both Newman and Brown pass on Kentucky it'll be because they know Cal doesn't run a system in which they could chuck it up 20+ times a game. I just don't see any other reason.

I think so too, unfortunately. The timing these last couple of days, particularly of the three-star center, has probably not been coincidental.

Cal could have been caught by surprise on a couple of the players who left--particularly Dakari--and got behind the 8-ball. Also doesn't help you when you're in the midst of the run we were on and other schools can get in to see these kids.

Could be, but you're also dealing with a lot of family history with Newman. Not easy to pull players out of places where their parents played. I think if MSU doesn't fire Rick Ray then the choice is a lot easier. Howland's success with one-and-dones is a selling point and there's no doubt that that was the reason they hired him.

Let's hope.. Just as much as my guts telling me Newman will go to Miss St. it's also telling me he may also end up committing to us. It's just makes too much sense for him to come to Kentucky in my opinion.

Yeah, he started following Ellis an hour after he released the following statement..

“It’s been a long 3 years. Just wanted to thank all the coaches who recruited me and stopped by my school ... appreciate all the fans who followed my journey. All my teammates, my coaches, teachers who’s made me a better thanks and Love y’all,”

I really wanted Mike Thorne to come in and more less take over the role Dakari played the last two seasons. I'm still totally bewildered as to why he chose to go to Illinois. Right, by all accounts they say Newman is a really loyal kid who would relish the opportunity to honor his Dad and play at Miss St.

Malik Newman is announcing Friday at noon at a closed press conference that will be streamed online.

Could be a sign that it's Mississippi State. Kentucky's propensity for having its media show up at even the most far-flung announcements might be part of the thought process there.

Appears to be determined to pick a school with gold in their color scheme.

All the buzz in Malik Newman's (http://foxs.pt/1yM5QcQ) recruitment has centered around Ben Howland & Mississippi State lately.
