Yes, even though the NCAA transfer portal closed for new entries on April 22, 2025, teams can still recruit and sign players who entered the portal before the deadline. The closure restricts new entries but does not prevent schools from adding players already in the portal. These athletes remain eligible to be contacted, visit campuses, and commit to new programs at any time.

These are the dates on which the transfer portal in college basketball and football will close in spring 2025.

Interesting...but also kind of hilarious. "Yes, give ME all those high-major transfers! I'll fix them for you...while I win my conference behind them and make huge amounts of cash for myself while doing so."

A little self-serving but also I think that’s a legitimate role some schools could fill—not sure about the two way contract thing but High Point and McNeese showed that if you have a decent coach and enough money to get guys much better than the rest of your conference, there’s some success to be had.

So, not only does he say he has an inside person at UK, but he’s implying he has an inside person at every other big program? How else would he be able yo make the claim?

Sonetimes I just shake my head.

Perry may end up at Ole Miss. Maybe they see him in a Sean Pedula role or something. Otherwise he doesn't really fit a defense-first, gritty type of program.

Can't fault Pope for wanting it all. He wants a offensive machine to shoot 30 plus threes a game and a lock down defensive team on the other side. Best of both worlds but many times something has to give., very rare to have a offensive and defensive machine, one usually carries the other. With Perry Pope may have chose defense over offense?

Who really knows what's going on behind closed doors? The idea has been floated that Pope and Perry may have came to a mutual agreement that it may be best to transfer to another school to get steady PT elsewhere? With NIL and the transfer portal, doesn't mean the door is forever closed for PERRY playing at Kentucky.

At the end of the day, Perry is the all time leading scorer in Kentucky basketball and 7 that all time leading scorer in the history of high school basketball, THINK ABOUT THAT!!!

People can hate. People can say he wasn't good enough or UK material,. People can say he's too slow, he's too short, his daddy spoon fed him buckets, whatever it is they want to make themselves feel better but at the end of the day, 7th all time in the history of high school scoring is very rare and impressive, kid can shoot and put the ball in the basket, still name of the game in this offensive ERA.

Not a comparison but did anyone in there right mind ever expect 6'1 195lb. Peyton Pritchard to score 43 points in a NBA game with 10 rebounds and 5 assist or win NBA sixth man of the year? I can tell you right now first hand he's not the best defender, he's not going to blow by you with quickness or break you down off the dribble. He has alligator (yes alligator) arms, doesn't have the wingspan like RONDO to put a hand up in front of your eyes on a jump shot, he can SHOOT THE BASKETBALL.

Ultimately Perry chose to leave but at some point I still believe he will play at Kentucky.

Wherever Perry ends up they will gain a great shooter. Who is still 6' or less. Not fast or quick. Is at least 2 years away from being strong enough. And, he can't be taught quickness or speed. I really like the kid, but he is what he is.

There's probably more than one factor that entered into his decision, but the fact he was all world in h.s. doesn't guarantee he would be a rousing success at a place like UK.

Of course they are, many SEC teams can see the potential but for some reason not KENTUCKY or it's fans.

Let's be honest, Kentucky fans act like we are the best of the best but in reality it's been how many years since we won a title and how many NCAA games have we won the past 5 years?

Old school yes, anything less than a title is a failure in my book but realistically, GONZAGA and many other schools have had more success than us the past how many years now?

I read a comment a week or so ago in regards to Chandler. Had he played his freshman year at BYU and then hit the NIL and transferred to Kentucky, Kentucky fans would be estatic downtown Louisville jumping off the second street bridge into the OHIO and laying down the red carpet. The fact he played his frehsman year at KENTUCKY and didn't go to the NBA or average 20 a game, half the people wanted him gone half way through the season, same for NOAH and PERRY.

Now imagine if NOAH had stayed and South Carolina and transferred or Perry had went elsewhere and transferred to Kentucky, people be losing they minds...

I feel sorry for KENTUCKY freshman (Cal conman effect) or any kid from the state of Kentucky that chooses to play at Kentucky, it's almost a no win situation...

Well, that's Kentucky and a lot of other schools. Gonzaga is a national power and have been for several years.

Ditto Houston. Houston's recent success far outshines Kentucky's.

However what Pope is trying to do is build us back up to where we were in that 1992-1997/2010-2015 timeframe, and then we can go from there. So you have recent success plus tradition.

But right now, sure, Kentucky is not the first school you'd think of when you think of the absolute pinnacle of the sport. I mean this is a surprise to nobody and not really a hard-hitting observation.

If Pope didn't see his potential he wouldn't have brought him in. He got recruited over and would likely not get anything more than mop up minutes next year unless we have both point guards injured again. He got recruited over and decided to leave. It's not that we didn't see his potential to be a decent player in a few years because most people have said just that. It's that he wants to play and clearly sees he won't because in college if you play big minutes based on their potential in two years you don't win titles.
