I have never thought that Barnhart really cared about the UK basketball program that much, but I simply think there's too much money at stake for anyone to let it flounder. The BOT would have Mitch's arse out of here tomorrow if he whiffed again.

Likely true, but it doesn’t mean we wouldn’t have been pretty severely damaged by another bad hire.

We aren’t all that different from IU, y’all. They’re exactly what we could be if we ever let this thing go off the rails for too long.

Indiana is a little different because the shadow of Bobby Knight still looms absurdly large in that program. They can't really get any traction because everybody they hire is compared to him, and when they have to hire there's the immediate pressure of hiring one of Knight's guys.

Kentucky isn't a great analog for IU for that reason in my opinion. Knight is this wild gravitational force that has held them down for years.

IMO, there is no comparison of IU and UK, no more than comparing UL with UK. Those programs, and others, long to be like UK and their fans know it. That makes a good rivalry.

I'm not sure why people are so bent out of shape about this. The colleges don't own these kids. They should be free to do what they feel is best for them.
