South Carolina 38
South Carolina started the season ranked # 9. An opening loss to #21 Texas A&M dropped them to # 21. A win over #6 Georgia brought them back up to # 13 and they hosted Missouri and College Game Day the week before the Kentucky game, losing by 1 point. This was Mark Stoops' first big win as a head coach. Kentucky had beaten Vanderbilt the week prior and after the South Carolina win was 5-1 due to a very close and controversial loss at Florida.
Commonwealth Stadium was rocking that night.
South Carolina ended up beating Miami in the Independence Bowl.

34 Al Phaneuf, DB (1965-68)
Montreal, Quebec, Canada (Montreal Rosemount HS)
First ever Canadian on scholarship at UK. Became a Christian during his second year at Kentucky and it would guide his later life decisions. Attended Florida Bible College upon graduation from UK and would found a Youth Ranch to teach young people about the Bible. He would later give up a professional football career to devote his time and talents to running the ranch with his wife.
Named Rookie of The Year in The Canadian Football League in his first season and was All-Pro and MVP of The Eastern Conference of the CFL in his second year.
