With Kentucky leading LSU by 26 points midway through the fourth quarter, Mumme ordered a fake punt on fourth-and-22 from the Wildcats 42, with upback A.J. Simon hitting tight end Derek Smith for 23 yards and the first down.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The recent surge by the Kentucky football team continues to generate national publicity for the Wildcats.

Earlier this week, ESPN.com selected its most surprising players of the 1999 college football season. At No. 2 on the list was a dual entry, Kentucky quarterback Dusty Bonner and tight end James Whalen.

On Wednesday, the nationally syndicated college football show”The Slant” came to campus to do a story on tight end James Whalen.”The Slant,” which is produced by Lexington’s Host Communications, will be aired on the Fox Sports Network during the week of Nov. 1-6.

This week’s issue of Sports Illustrated has a story on runningback A. J. Simon in the college football section. The story is about Simon’s success in executing fake punts. The story also can be viewed on CNNSI.com.
