Jonas Liening, the very solid offensive tackle on the 1998 Outback Bowl team, wore #64. He was one of multiple solid Wildcats from Ohio in that era, to include LB Jeff Snedegar (#17), RB Anthony White (#32), OG Jeremy Streck (#77), OG Josh Parrish (#71), DT Marvin Major (#98), LB Ryan Murphy (#59), and WR Garry Davis (#82, mentioned above, who caught the fourth down fake punt TD pass that allowed Kentucky to avoid an upset against Indiana in 1998), LB Jamal White (#60), DB Derrick Tatum (#21), DT John Robinson (#46), and FB Mike Kamphake (#45).
That very solid OL in that era had Ohio kids at its core.
It is still baffling that the school allowed Bill Curry and Eliot Uzelac to remain in charge of that program as long as it did. Uzelac ran Anthony White off the team (and almost did the same with Tim Couch). Mumme had to re-recruit White to come back. White then left very high in all kinds of career leader lists at UK, despite playing in an incredibly inept and unproductive system under Uzelac and Curry.
Anthony White is among the most underrated Wildcats of his era and maybe any era.
Jeff Snedegar was outstanding. He was runner up for Mr. Football in Ohio to Charles Woodson, who went on to win the Heisman Trophy. He came to Kentucky as a quarterback and switched to linebacker because the team needed him there. He excelled at it. He played against Tennessee with a useless injured arm in 1997 and still managed to sack Peyton Manning.
Kentucky didn’t begin landing good players from Ohio with Vince Marrow’s arrival.Last edited by Old School; 06-30-2025, 10:03 AM.👍 1Comment

61 Jim Schenk - Jim lettered in 1952 and 1953. He would've been ineligible for varsity play as a frosh (1951), based on rules at the time. Also John C Wyatt of the Herald-Leader took a photo of the opening lineup in new uniforms in September 1952. Schenck is G0 in that photo! He wore in 1952.Comment
