Just watched the "Welcome to the family" video posted on KSR. IMO, Calipari does this when he's a wee bit uncertain about his prospects with recruits. Amps up the PR and Gate to the NBA coverage a bit.

I'd agree. After eight years, we should all know what's likely coming down the pike next season. There's plenty of time for surprises, but it's probably going to be one of those "down" years. There'll be very little veteran leadership on the '17-'18 squad, and Cal will have to land virtually every remaining big-time target to keep us competitive.

Not feeling too good about that.
If he can get Diallo and Bamba then UK would be the odds-on favorite. That's an incredible college team.

        Bamba is a superstar.

If we can add Diallo and Bamba to go with the 4 commits plus Humphries and SKJ that should be a really good team. I would expect at least 1 more in addition. Jarred Vanderbilt would be the first to come to my mind. But the veteran leadership would definitely not be there. Maybe not a championship team but I would think a 24-25 win team and better if things went well. I wouldn't be too unhappy with that.

They have more potential than that IMO simply because their frontcourt has the potential to be extremely powerful.

A junior Humphries and a sophomore Killeya-Jones to go around Bamba and Richards is extremely fun to think about.

Thin at guard but I would expect him to make a run at a fifth-year transfer if he indeed can't get Young.

Definitely the potential to be very good. I thought my estimate of 24-25 was probably low but I didn't want to go crazy. My whole point was that I expect anything but a "down year" But you are right it could turn into a very special team.

And based on Young's tweet to Green today I wouldn't totally rule him out yet either. We know Cal is the master at selling the fact that guys can play together.

Just reading that Green says he is going to try to recruit those 2 plus Kevin Knox to join him. Not likely to happen but it's nice to think about.

A little update on Trae Young. Good that he talks about how Cal has been able to make it work with multiple guards. Probably still a longshot but I have learned to not underestimate Cal.

I'm watching Alexander's game on ESPN2 now. He reminds me a little of Andrew Harrison. He's tall, long, definitely looks to pass first, and can weave his way to the rim. He's a solid defender but I think some of that is because he's a few inches taller than his opponents he's guarding. He doesn't rebound too well and seems to go pretty soft at the rim but finishes well. I don't know his averages so I could be way off, but that's just a few observations from the first half of the game.

Looks like we are not getting Young or Knox but will likely get Bamba and Diallo.

This would be another very athletic team but a really poor shooting team based upon scouting reports for these recruits. After Saturday, that doesn't exactly thrill me. We'll see how we end up.

We will be very lucky if we land those two and should be ecstatic if we do. Because if Young goes to KU, Knox to Duke(which seems pretty solid), Bamba to Duke, and Diallo to UCONN or Cuse it would be rough.

Duke's looking like it's going to make another top level haul.

Trae Young has a new blog entry up over at USA Today High School Sports and in it he talks a little bit about Kentucky and the possibility of joining Quade Green and Shai Alexander in the UK backcourt next season. Young was happy for Green when Green committed to the Cats, he says, and […]

We're going to be thin everywhere unless we land everyone on our wish list.

If Briscoe doesn't improve his perimeter game to NBA standards, is there any chance he returns next year?
