I was always under the impression that taking a banner down was more a semblance of shame than trying to convince people the games never happened. They don't deserve to have the visual recognition that they won the title by hanging a banner in their arena if they cheated to get it there, IMO.

The NCAA is much better off trying to circumvent future issues like this. If they're going to be in the punishment business, then really punish. Shaming by removing a banner really does nothing. I think UMASS still hangs theirs and still acknowledges the Final Four, as does Memphis. All it becomes is fodder for opposing fans and sportswriters.
A much better way to cut Louisville to the quick would be to give them a two-year postseason ban and chop into their scholarships. And if you really wanted to punish in a correct and just way, then punish the coaches...although in Pitino's case it won't matter as he'll just retire.Comment

For all those interested I have a copy of the NCAA investigation on Memphis as a PDF file. When Cal was hired I wanted to know about what happened then just the talking heads on TV. After reading the report it was a screw job on Memphis. The NCAA was mad that Rose refused to talk to them for a second time about his ACT test. Yes he had spoke to them in November 2007. They only got serious about the allegation in March 2008 when he was sent another letter and he did not answer. The university and Cal didn't receive copies of these letters.
You will have to get pass the women's golf coach who was just completely out of control if you read the attached report.
When Rose who had left school would not talk to the NCAA they went after Memphis. I have attached the PDF file to this post or at least I hope I did if anyone is interested in reading it. It was the first NCAA report on violations I had ever seen or read. Memphis investigation.pdf.Attached FilesLast edited by thughes; 11-06-2015, 05:23 PM.Comment

And while they are at, perhaps UL can explain how Terrance Williams can purchase a 5ok vehicle during his junior year in college without a job????? T. Williams was the most arrogant person i have ever briefly been around in my life.............Comment

As much as a mess that UL is in, i won't wish anything bad upon them. I am sure some of those kids that have played for that University are actually pretty good kids. Calipari takes the blame for everything else so may as well blame him for this one as well. I guess Rick and his peers figured they had to go all out to try and keep pace with Calipari and other big name schools in the recruiting game. I still like Rick for his UK days and still think he's a great coach on the court.I find it very hard to believe that he wasn't aware that all of this was taking place whether he was directly involved or not......
So let me say this about Tom Jurich and how i have felt for some time now. He's like "fool's gold" in my opinion and i think overall he has set Louisville athletics up for failure in the future. The school has went from guaranteed tournament bids year in and year out to a much more polished conference in the ACC. Millions have been spent on a football stadium and a new arena but what happens when a great basketball coach like Pitino and even Petrino decides to leave. I will always see Louisville as a stepping stone program for coaches in general. It's all good now while they are winning but what happens when they actually start losing and everyone loses interest...
Furthermore,, always keep this in mind for the UL football and basketball fans talking smack to UK fans. The Louisville fans didn't become a fan of Louisville for the football or baseball team, it was because of the basketball program. From the outside looking in moving foward, the basketball program is about to go down a dark road that our own program went through many years ago in the late 80's. Problem is, i don't see Louisville drawing in a big name to turn it all around the way UK was able to draw in big time coach way back when...........Comment

I will never forget going to the Derby Festival game in Freedom Hall while he was at UL. He walks in with Taquan Dean, who has on jeans and his UL jersey. What does Williams have on? A fuzzy coat, fuzzy hat, Elvis type sunglasses, and a cane. I swear on this. From that moment on, I never though much of him. That Elvis comment to some may have come from left field, but I saw it firsthand. Just a complete inflated ego from a player who quite frankly really wasn't that good.Isaiah 5:20👍 1Comment

Eric Crawford with a small update here where he sort of riffs on some comments Pitino made in New York this weekend. Crawford says that the NCAA is going to have a hard time proving that money was actually paid. He says that there were likely parties, and there was definitely sex, but the sticking point will be the cash.
I don't think these women would've been doing this gratis. Somebody was getting paid, likely Powell, and the reason the others didn't see a cut is probably because she and McGee had a deal worked out.

Pitino is turning this mess around into a rally around the flag approach. I saw where he was saying the reason they weren't ranked was because of all of this. Well it could be they haven't played anyone worth a darn yet. If they beat Mich State this week then we can talk about being ranked but until then just enjoy the wins of over North Florida and popcorn state.Last edited by KevinHall; 11-30-2015, 01:34 PM.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

This thing seems to slowly be dying a quiet death, just like the UNC scandal.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

UofL is going to get hit on this. Bank it. There is absolutely no way in the world that they walk. It could be more minor than people first suggested, but it's going to happen. They've got recruits admitting that it happened. As Crawford says, Pitino admits that it happened as recently as two days ago.
(Have no idea about UNC. That's far more complex.)Comment

The latest idiot comment from Pitino...Says his team is not ranked because of the hooker scandalComment
