Is it feasible he asked everyone for 1.8 mil, didn’t get it, and that could be why he’s reconsidering UK? Who knows?

You'd have to think guys like Brea and probably Williams were well up over the $1 mil mark. $1.8 as one of the very last top-shelf players available seems like it's probably a legit number.

You sure you aren’t mixing up old info re: Brea? That was the precise figure tied to his recruitment, at first, which he didn’t get.

I have to wonder if we often here the asking price is the real offer and amount.

Just what I saw earlier today.

Still with Osobor getting 2 million all over news, probably opened up Pandora's box.

Who's to say that player's like Johnell Davis or others may now want more ? What about Williams or Brea, others who have already committed?

              Question....

Is a NIL deal more or less a one year deal or contract to play like any other proffessional sport?

Is a player legally obligated to that contract or at risk for breach and legal obligations?

You would think that it’s a total number compiled from multiple sources. The players allow their NIL to be used for things like advertising, maybe they have to show up for some autographs, etc.

Morgan and Morgan, for example, has a bunch of billboards with UK players on them. Reed Sheppard put out some comments for a drug rehab company in CKY. Will Levis was in a Paul Miller Ford commercial for the new ford bronco.

It wasn’t supposed to be so tied to the schools with these “collectives”, but there was so little planning with this thing that it was easy to side step the original claimed intent

In the MLB, you have the Yankees and Dodgers, teams with enough revenue to pay the luxury tax if needed. The NFL and NBA has salary caps but it still boils down to preferred destinations.

Let's hope Kentucky basketball has the funds of the Yankees and Dodgers of the MLB combined with one of the most desirable places to play.

Kentucky had long tradition before Calipari came to town but one thing he may have done favorable for us in the modern era is BRANDED the name as a desired place to play?

With the Kentucky brand all over the NBA (star players) , that should still bold well for us. Calipari will be retired before he can ever truly rebuild the Arkansas brand the way he did KENTUCKY.....

                      It's crazy now.

Nothing against Pope or Even Cal. One can talk about wanting players who want to be here and the other can talk about "it's not for everyone' but when it's all said and done, it's who's paying the most along with the other perks (Tv time, traditions, fanbase, etc.) lol lol

I am stubborn old school and want players who want to be here but at the same time, I want to win like RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Forget my post about Lanier and Pass...

I'm not an attorney but far as I know there is nothing to limit a NIL deal to one year. However, it's not a contract to play sports. It's a contract to pay the player for the use of him name, image and likeness. That's not to say a NIL deal could not require the player to play and, I suspect, virtually all do.

Yes a player is obligated to perform the duties specified in the contral or be in breach. It's just like any other contract. Nothing prevents the contract from allowing either party to terminate the contract or specify to damages if they do.

I don't like the crazy wild west thing going on with NIL...but I don't necessarily think a player trying to get the most money he can means "he doesn't want to play here."

Cal's players were called mercenaries and I never liked that. These guys are just doing something that conservative Americans--which most UK fans claim to be--really should stand up for. It's free market stuff.

It'll only stop when the boosters and businesses realize they're not getting a great return on their investment and they simply refuse to keep doing it. I'd say that day is coming sooner rather than later. And then the players will unionize, caps will be bargained, and the ground beneath the feet of the sport will shift again.

It’s really wild, but the fact is that NIL in its current form allows boosters to throw the book at players both for recruitment and for retention.

Imagine the Porsche dealership that allowed Shaedon Sharpe the use of a car in exchange for him gracing campus for a few months. Noice

What's the magic number to field a competive team year in year out, is it $10 million?

Like pro sports the biggest payroll and talented teams don't always gel due too chemistry, injuries ,bad coaching ,etc...

Still, low payroll teams rarely compete for anything..

At the end of all this, good thing we are a Blue Blood and our name is Kentucky.

Someone asked a question today and it was a great question. Mark Pope's introductory had 20k inside Rupp another 5k outside.

How many logged in live via Internet or watched it on TV???

This fanbase is not only Nationwide, but Worldwide.

I think the money will always be there if needed..
