No, they passed on him, too. Another below-average player, plus his knees are trash.

I for one will be pleased with whatever happens next year. I was/am really ready for a change.

I agree totally. Cal lost me a long time ago when all those players were drafted, and he made that asinine statement about that being the greatest moment in UK bb history.

Call philosophy was get great players to the NBA and you'll have a championship level team. Old school is have a championship level team and SOME will get to the NBA. Cals way worked real, REAL well for years....but then the game shifted....other coaches dove in, then he didn't get all he wanted, then injuries year after year, NIL, unlimited transfer.....

And a seemingly lack of coaching/ adapting.

Let's face it....by and large the guys Cal got loved him and for a short time loved playing for him.....and although this may be hard for some (me included) to stomach, he may well have short term success at Arkansas or wherever he went.

15 years is an awful long time these days at one program unless you can keep at the very top like K, Williams, Smith, maybe Self.

Self has definitely kept the pace up regardless of the off the court issues including his health.

For me the issue with Calipari was satiety that bled through his entire approach to the game. He made it to the HOF and lost his burning desire to dominate the sport. He won’t be regaining that fire just because he moved to Fayetteville…and that’s apparent when you watch his interviews, when you see him approach the roster the same as ever, when you see him hire his son as an assistant.

              He’s done

In the “change is good” category, there is a chance Cal will be reinvigorated and as 40bill said, have some success at Arkansas.

it also could be … could be…. that Cal will adjust his roster build process and therefore make it out of the first weekend of the NCAAT.

Maybe he’ll win a game in the SECT?

Reminder: we’ve won two SECT games since the 2018 season . Dos.

Pope has really put together a deep, talented, versatile roster in two months.

Now we'll see how he plays them, and of course, the all-important chemistry.

It's sickening to think about how Cal destroyed our basketball program. He was a lousy bench coach, he's stubborn and as Rick Bozich said this morning, he's not going to change. He hired Brad so he could get a paycheck but will probably be no help. His only good addition was Payne. He's so far behind the times, he can't catch up. I agree with Matt Colvin. He's done.

Lol....I really don't think he will change, just throwing out a possibility.
I think it was Will that pointed out Mark Pope is the oldest coach UK has hired....but at 51, hes 14 or 15 years younger than Cal.

Believe me, I had more drive and energy 14 or 15 years ago.

I’m not supporting Cal here, but I think “destroyed” is a bit strong. When something gets destroyed, there’s no bringing it back.

UK isn’t in that kind of shape.

Cal didn't destroy UK basketball but it is interesting to think that had COVID never happened, there's a chance he might have. It's forgotten in some ways now but Cal had the roster *very* dicey until the COVID rules came along and we were able to get guys eligible immediately year before last. We were getting too many defections and not enough signees to field a team.
