Hot off the press from Coach Calipari himself

I woke up this morning thinking about our team now that the NBA deadline has passed. We support all of our players as they weigh their options and pursue their dreams and it’s my job to make sure these kids are making informed decisions. It may not be what you think or I think - but it’s informed. But that also makes it hard to move until you really know what your roster is going to be. We’ve prepared for all scenarios and now we can move forward.
There’s so much misinformation out there and most of it we can’t address publicly. Numbers being thrown around just aren’t accurate, who we are in contact with or who we are not in contact with, we don’t make it public.
We want players who want this culture, who care about winning, understand what it means to play at Kentucky - both how hard and how rewarding it is - and have the ultimate drive to win and succeed on the biggest stage, which helps everyone. We have a talented group right now which isn’t finished yet, but when it’s done we will have a talented team who will chase the ultimate goal together and make #BBN proud.

The whole recruitments of Hunter Dickinson and Keshad Johnson and how they both went down proves that statement is total BS.

Maybe he's right maybe he's not worried as a fan from the outside looking in, he sure make it seem the whole world is falling apart in regards to Kentucky basketball.

If you read that statement and the one he made about Oscar yesterday it's very clear to me that Oscar played the heck out of Cal, and Cal allowed himself to be played.

This is becoming a recurring theme.

Jones says we are probably going to get the St. Johns kid.

                So there's something. I guess.

Cal is using his full car salesman technique to explain his failures.

Cal is washed on the sidelines. He has no interest in the media responsibilities.

And he's allowing himself to be held hostage by his players and AD.

The writing is on the wall.

We all had a feeling this would happen and if Reeves doesn't return, it gets worse. I read Cal's statement and quickly realized he still thinks Kentucky fans are stupid and cannot see what's really happening. I'm sure Mitch and NIL are contributing factors, but players and parents are seeing a coach who is being played by players and recruits, plus is being totally outcoached by competitors, so the name Kentucky is no longer a drawing card.

Parents and players of Kentucky calibre want a big fat NIL deal.

Coaching, or the lack of it, and what other players are doing is irrelevant.

If Mitch and Cal can't get the basketball collectives in line, they're toast.

^ Unfortunately that probably is prerequisite.

But the substance isn’t irrelevant, because without it there won’t be enough attention and faith to garner those salaries…I mean NIL opportunities.

You gotta have both, and without a very good product here I’m not confident this state can afford both basketball and football. This is a critical point.

...and you're not gonna get a good product without rolling out the deals.

                              So... yeah.

It's Cal. If you give him enough talent, he'll win with it. Most coaches worth anything do. Whether or not he'll win enough Win It Counts is up for debate, but he'll win.

What? I don't understand that, and I'm not trying to be rude.

If you give him enough talent? Is it enough talent to be "on par" with other blue bloods, is it enough to be top 12-ish? Is it enough to win a game in the NCAA?

This is where a few coaches would laugh and ask just how much of an advantage he needs with talent versus his opponent. More than St. Peters? More than Evansville? More than Jerome Tang? More than Tom Crean, Steve Alford, etc al???

And this speaks to a major point of the job, recruiting. Today's approach to recruiting is different, much different, than it was in 2003 especially on paper. But why would we say something like that as a program that found Coach Tubby Smith unable to recruit enough here. Why? This coach said he's here because he can recruit the best of the best.

That's no longer the case, so why is he still here?
