So just because we'll have transfers Baylor doesn't have to be the model. Baylor was good because they had tough-as-hell guards. They were also super old. Macio Teague is like 25 years old. That's something that's going to be possible for UK next year.[/QUOTE]
And Vital is 24!Comment

The thing about this though is that I'm not sure Baylor or Gonzaga had many elite players coming into the year. They became elite because of what we know about this past year.
Jalen Suggs was definitely an elite athlete. Jared Butler was borderline. Colin Kispert maybe, though that's debatable.
But you've got all these other guys who starred last night and they weren't thought of as elite coming into the season. Macio Teague and Davion Mitchell (Mitchell averaged 10 a game as a sophomore) and Drew Timme (10 a game as a sophomore) and Ayayi (2 a game as a freshman)...all these guys were role players coming into this year, and then they blew up.
I look at players like Tshiebwe and I do see something in them that could be grown. But nothing works unless you have guards. It will all come down to who he gets at PG and whether that guy is tough. Everything else will fall apart if he can't bring in a game-changer at the point.Last edited by 85 Fly; 04-06-2021, 08:05 PM.Comment

To my knowledge Kentucky is still angling for a gamechanging point guard.

He’s regarded as a very smart player who really knows how to play. That’s the thing I see again and again when his name comes up. Will he start? Doubtful. But will he come in and do some good things for us throughout the season? Probably have a hot night or two? Yeah, most likely. He’ll get minutes at the four and has the skills to stretch the floor.Comment

Matt Jones is getting word from good sources that we'll have Marcus Carr from Minnesota on board by next Tuesday. The same source that called Kellan Grady.Comment

He may be great, and I know we’re in no position to turn down a good guard if one wants to commit. But as I said, I’ll be a little disappointed if this goes down, then Zeg puts his name in (assuming we could land him).Comment

But, if Carr is ready to commit then Cal cannot afford to pass on him.Comment
-
Definitely can’t pass on him if he’s ready — especially not after the season we just had, and especially not with Cal’s reputation for asking players to hold off when they’re ready. Who knows how much truth there is to that last bit, but fans believe it and would explode if they thought Cal kept Carr at arms’ length, only to watch him commit elsewhere.Comment

I imagine if Zegarowski really wants to be a Cat he could still enter the portal and commit to UK before Tuesday and then Carr can decide what to do. If Zeg was just offended that someone broke his news before he wanted to but he’s really leaving Creighton—it’s probably time to make his move. If he doesn’t then there’s no reason to be disappointed with Carr.
Mintz still has not announced his plans. I’m not hoping for this because I like Mintz but I wonder if Zeg AND Carr would both come here if Mintz decides to move on. Doubtful. But a backcourt rotation of Zeg/Carr/Grady with Allen grabbing a few minutes at the 2 ad 3 could be very potent. But I’d be happy with Carr/Grady/Mintz too from what I’ve gathered. Cal may need to capitalize on utilizing his best players with 3 guard offense along with Oscar and CollinsComment
