I have never seen a trailer so disconnected between it's ability to make me want to see the movie vs the horrible reviews.

        Bad Moms.

I saw this in a theater full of women, which added to the experience. How the women reacted to what was going on was highly interesting; there were times the women in the row behind me were having entire conversations with the movie, which was hilarious. The movie itself is terrific at times, at other times it bogs down and becomes a mess, but I enjoyed it even when it was trying too hard. It has some insane set pieces, including a scene in a grocery store that's amazing. In the last act the movie tries to go for emotion and can't quite make it, but when it realizes it's just a silly comedy it's highly effective.

Your significant other probably doesn't want to see this with a dude, but if you're looking for something raunchy and unapologetically silly, this is terrific.

Per our above conversation, Vulture lists the 25 best superhero movies since Blade

I forgot The Incredibles in my list above. That would definitely be one of the very few superhero movies I loved.

Haven't seen a whole lot on this list, but I do agree with #1. Unbreakable is one of the more inventive movies I've ever seen in any genre.

New York Magazine energizes people around shared interests, igniting important conversations on the news, politics, style, and culture that drive the world forward.

Notably absent: Guardians of the Galaxy, Watchmen, Super
Conspicuously present: Punisher: War Zone, Mystery Men (srsly)

What an odd list. Says more about the writer than the films. He places one of the worst and most reviled superhero movies at #6, places the worst Iron Man as the best, and Unbreakable? Not to mention the Catatonic's observations.

Guy also loves him some Hellboy...guess he just needs to be different.

Watchmen is the best comic book adaptation I've ever seen, and that's only because I never thought that the graphic novel could be filmed successfuly.

Zack Snyder could screw up every DC movie from here til the end of time, but he got Watchmen almost 100 percent right.

Sausage Party - I laughed. A lot. Can't really say much more. If you subscribe to Seth Rogen and company's brand of clever/filthy humor, then you'll probably have a blast with this... cartoon... about talking grocery items. There's a weed-smoking Native American bottle of whiskey, a villainous douche (literally), humans getting high on bath salts, gruesome slow-mo war scenes ala "Saving Private Ryan" involving jars of peanut butter and jelly, Disney musical numbers, more F words than you'd hear in an entire season of "The Wire," a Palestinian flatbread arguing with a Jewish bagel, jars of saurkraut singing about exterminating "the juice," an actual meat loaf singing songs from "Bat Out Of Hell," a lesbian taco shell, extensive debates on the existence of God, international conflict, and a healthy dose of existentialism. Oh, and this is all before an all-out grocery food sex orgy that rivals any of the dirtiest porn you've ever watched. If this sort of thing sounds like your cup of tea, you'll laugh heartily. Equal doses stupid, stoner-brained, inspired, thoughtful, insightful, gross, and profane, this is one of the strangest movies I've ever watched. Vocal talents include Rogen, Bill Hader, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Edward Norton, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Selma Hayek and Kristen Wiig.

                    Stranger Things.

Finally finished this last night. I caught references to E.T., Poltergeist, The Tommyknockers, It, Stand by Me, Pumpkinhead, Predator, The Goonies, and virtually everything else King and Spielberg did in the '80s. Every scene is like a Where's Waldo for '80s references and nods. The closest recent cousin to this is obviously Super 8, but I think the difference is in its second half Stranger Things becomes so much better than just an homage--it becomes not only suspenseful and extremely well-made, but also surprisingly emotional. Super 8 never made it there.

This is a colossus of imagination and inspiration. I think the filmmakers set out to make an '80s sci-fi pastiche and ended up making something very, very special. Highest possible recommendation.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. A truly special work.

And to think, Warner Bros. passed on the Duffer Brothers to direct "IT" when Cary Fukunaga left. I can only imagine how awesome they would've made it; they're obviously huge King marks.

                        Wicker Park.

This is a new release on Amazon Prime, so you can get it for free if you're a subscriber. (Don't.)

The most interesting thing about this is how dated it is. It was made in 2004 but there's a strong '90s vibe going on, from the bizarre music that plays in the background to the choppy, amateurish editing. Otherwise the movie bills itself as a "thriller," but that's a lie. There's nothing thrilling about it unless you like flashbacks. Series and series of flashbacks, one worse than the next, and characters acting like nobody does in real life. It ends up dropping its "thriller" pretenses and settling in to just a straight-faced romance. Early Rose Byrne is here, which is interesting, and Josh Hartnett--whatever happened to Josh Hartnett? These are the questions I asked myself because this movie was so bad.

Spectacularly awful even if you have a jones to watch something free. Skip with everything you have.

My wife made me watch this a long time ago. Yuck.

And Josh Hartnett is one of the leads on the popular Showtime show "Penny Dreadful" (which I haven't watched).

                              Mine, too. I fell asleep.

Penny Dreadful is pretty bad, too. Not sure why it's as popular as it is. Though, wasn't it just announced that it's been cancelled?

Wicker Park wants badly to be a DePalma movie, but it just never gets there.

I was most intrigued by the editing. It's only been 12 years since that movie came out and it feels like it could've easily been made in the early '90s. Insanely dated.
