Start Trek Beyond- This was a really good movie and I wasn't a ST fan growing up. I enjoyed the first two reboots and thought this one was better. It has a ton of action, some good humor, and a good enough story.Isaiah 5:20Comment

Remember renting Halloween III from the local video store (also rented the VCR and probably a Nintendo (Duck Hunt FTW)) and getting it home and being befuddled at what I was watching.
The pre-Internet movie renting experience resulted in some shockers. And not just movies. Took half a decade for the Contra code to reach eastern Kentucky.Comment

A lot of people loved it, a lot of people hated it. I was sort of in the middle. It was intentionally slow and methodical, which sort of worked to its advantage. The performances were good, but the accents were so thick that it was nearly impossible to understand much of the dialogue.
I also didn't think it was particularly scary, and it was fairly anticlimactic.Comment

We went to the theater to see that one. Very slow moving movie. Hard to understand the speaking too. They spoke in that old English brogue. You needed captions much of the time. For a rental or Netflix its OK.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

In a way it was sort of ahead of its time. Now you see these TV shows that are anthologies or that pivot around a theme. I think they were going for that...but as an 11-year-old I just sat there wondering when Michael Myers was going to show up.Comment

Yes. Totally different.

I've probably mentioned this before, but I worked at a hell of a movie rental shop for a few years as a teenager. For a long time I'd notice that movie while restocking the shelves. I read the notes on the back of the case a half dozen times but never got around to watching it. Finally around Halloween one year I popped it in at work while things were quiet. Two or three customers came in, each one asked what I was watching, and we were all so weirded out by the fact that it wasn't actually a Halloween movie that we stood there and watched for ten minutes or so before snapping out of it and proceeding with their transactions.
There were some good ideas in it, but it's painfully dated.
Did you like "The Witch"?Comment

Don't Breathe- This is a fantastic little thriller. It was marketed as a horror movie but I don't see how. It has an old school feel to it. The use of darkness and the shadows and colors created by the light was fantastic. It makes you really fall hard for the blind man until a shocking twist in the 3rd act. It seemed to come out of left field a bit, and the movie would've worked without it, but oh man what a twist. I loved this movie.Isaiah 5:20Comment

The Contra code, lol. Those were GREAT times. Nothing beat the Commodore 64 though. You could fit a bunch of games on those big floppy disks. My favorites were Bruce Lee, Commando, and Winter Olympics.Isaiah 5:20Comment
