I'd love to get him. Would fill a real void for next year as we'll need shooting. But if we get Bamba then Smith would be the 7th highest rated player in our class by a wide margin. Throw in possibly Sasha, Wenyen and Isaac and the guy may be concerned whether he'd see the court in Cal's system and primary concern of getting guys to the league.
Not knocking Cal here as I love getting top players every year but recent history may give a player ranked in the 70's reason to think hard.
I posted a couple months ago I'd like Cal to find a 4 or even 3 star dead-eye shooter to add to the class and this guy seems to fit the bill perfectly. Question is...can he sign him with the expectation of seeing the floor?
This year we were the definition of streaky but in any given game we could get multiple 3's from Monk, Willis, Mulder, Hawkins and even Gabriel. Losing 4 of those guys we'll need a shooter badly. Maybe Cal can sell him on what our last 3 shooting guards have done whether he can promise minutes or not. We all know he'd be on the pine behind the burger boys if he can't defend.
Like all the other posters--I really want him in the mix!
Edit: Let's also hope Green and Diallo are better shooters than Fox and Briscoe even though it's not what they're know for.Last edited by Catsrock; 03-29-2017, 02:02 PM.Comment

^ Good post.
A lot of posters claim they would like to have 4-star players without thinking about how hard it is to get those players in the system Cal has set up.
What he generally does is get those types first and then move on to the higher-ranked guys.
As far as shooting, I'm concerned as much as anybody, particularly if we fail to land Knox. But I was watching Diallo's highlight videos the other night, and he looks like he has great form.
Of course you can never tell from those edited videos. But it is true that guys who are defined as "slashers" and "athletes" are automatically thought to be poor shooters. But this isn't always the case. I heard Doron Lamb wasn't a great three-point shooter. I heard Malik Monk wasn't going to be able to shoot the ball from outside at all.
So you never know until you get them in the mix and throw them out there.Comment

But regarding just his position (center), I don't think it's any more crowded here than anywhere else.
Richards is his main (possibly only) competition there. That's something he's been aware of for months and still has us on his list.Comment

Unless Tai just wants to be at UK, then he should look elsewhere IMO.
Wenyen is a little more complicated because he has a loooooooong way to go to be an impact player consistently, but it is possible over time he could develop into one. At least a decent 6th or 7th man.Comment

I don't think Bamba sees anyone taking mins from him wherever he goes.
A lineup of Green, Diallo, Washington or Vanderbilt, Bamba, and Richards is something else. No college experience and unproven outside shooting, but insane talent, size, length, athleticism.
Next year's team is looking like it will be the type of team Cal relishes.Comment
