BR projects Oweh will be drafted: EDIT: Oweh Withdraws!

Bleacher Report is projecting Oweh will be taken as the last player drafted. First time I've seen him projected as being drafted.

He probably should come back for another season.

Young guy and his family will have some thinking to do. Hope he comes back, but this decision is all his.

How much does the last pick of the draft pay?

                I found this…

                Second-Round Picks (Picks 31–58)

Second-round picks are not bound by the rookie wage scale, allowing teams more flexibility in contract negotiations. Salaries for these players can vary widely based on team evaluations and negotiations. For instance, in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny James was selected 55th overall and signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, including a guaranteed $1.1 million in his first year . This contract is notably higher than that of the previous year’s 55th pick, Isaiah Wong, who received a one-year, two-way contract worth $559,782 .

In summary, while first-round picks have more predictable and substantial salaries due to the rookie scale, second-round picks’ earnings can vary greatly, with some securing lucrative deals and others receiving more modest contracts.
Bronny James is going to make a huge amount of money in the NBA.  The son of icon LeBron made history by playing with his father in the league, becoming the first father-son duo ever to take to the…

I don't know if it's about the money or more about the status of playing in the NBA?

You make a NBA team, boom or bust, playing in the NBA is something no one can ever take away from you...

The fact he excelled under Pope in perhaps the toughest conference in history was great for us on the court but bad for us now that the season is over.

Maybe the plan was to test waters all along but I don't think anyone expected him to have the type of season he just had.

Before the season started last year there was a thread here in regards to who to watch, I actually predicted OWEH was the sleeper on the team. Thtat's all good but now here we are wondering if we will eve see him in BLUE again.

Calipari rubbed folks the wrong way with his one and done mentality but if any of these players break out and have success, they are all subject to leave for the pro's or get a offer they can't refuse from another school. To realistically think Pope or any other coach is going to develop someone over a 3 to 4 year period of time and have them ready down the road is delusional these days, it's a year to year thing these days with players, old ways are history...

The only way you can do it these days is to get clever with it. Thus his thing he mentioned about trying to bring in players to redshirt, thus banking them for the following season.

The SEC got real lucky last year all across the conference by returning a lot. Kentucky could be one of those teams this year with Oweh. But lucking out and getting two years from a player is a luxury these days.

This is the irony of the one-and-done thing. You'd think bringing in a system coach would negate one-and-dones, but here comes the portal and obscene NIL numbers, and you're pretty much back to just hoping you can keep players two years before they set sail.

The Bronny James contract is a Lebron James influence figure. I imagine the Wong contract may be a more accurate figure with typical 59th picks.

Agreed. If we can get two years of services out of a player I would consider it a WIN.

I just hope we can catch fire at the right time and hang a banner.

Good news is we have a great coach (absolute right person for the job IMO) and we do have money to throw around to get what we need.

I hate to put it all on one kid's shoulders but double 0's decision this year is HUGE..

Agreed. If Lebron retires, I doubt Bronny is a Laker very long...

First round picks are guaranteed a contract while second round picks aren't really guaranteed anything. Basically, you get drafted in the second round, you have a chance at signing a contract.

Correct. And, you can sign that contract all you want but if they kick you down to the G league I'm pretty sure it's all ripped up except any guarantee. Then, like Oscar, they bring you back on a two way contract for significantly less money.

Most of us on here make more than a G league salary and even if Oweh got the same exact contract as Bronny, he will make more money at UK next season.

He isn't going anywhere. It's been talked about for months that everyone in the program expects him to test the waters, get feedback, and return. One mock having him the last pick of the draft isn't going to change that.
