Yep. I think it boils down to they’ve become what most (Cat fans at least) would have expected. They’re dangerous, capable of beating just about anyone—on a good day. But losses piling up.

I guess more losses than anticipated which make them a bubble team rather than a certain tourney team with a first weekend exit. Would take a strong finish to get them in.

So, bored over here and I was thinking about Cal's Kentucky tenure, and decided to put together my All-Cal Kentucky team (and then the 2nd team and 3rd team).

        1st Team:
        1. John Wall
        2. DeMarcus Cousins
        3. Brandon Knight
        4. Anthony Davis
        5. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
        6. Willie Cauley-Stein
        7. Julius Randle
        8. Karl-Anthony Towns
        9. Tyler Ulis
        10. Jamal Murray
        11. Malik Monk
        12. De'Aaron Fox
        13. Oscar Tshiebwe

        2nd Team:
        1. Patrick Patterson
        2. Eric Bledsoe
        3. Darius Miller
        4. Terrence Jones
        5. Doron Lamb
        6. Nerlens Noel
        7. Aaron Harrison
        8. Devin Booker
        9. Bam Adebayo
        10. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
        11. Tyler Herro
        12. Tyrese Maxey
        13. Reed Sheppard

        3rd Team:
        1. Marquis Teague
        2. Alex Poythress
        3. James Young
        4. Andrew Harrison
        5. Trey Lyles
        6. Kevin Knox
        7. P.J. Washington
        8. Keldon Johnson
        9. Immanuel Quickley
        10. TyTy Washington
        11. Antonio Reeves
        12. Cason Wallace
        13. Rob Dillingham

Thoughts? Beyond, "Holy crap, that's an insane list of talent over 15 years!"

Are those ranked lists? If so, how is AD not at the top? And how’s he behind three other guys? And how’s one of them Brandon Knight?

Makes me think 2 things—1 it would take me a lot of time and mental anguish to compile a list like yours—so, well done. And 2–SGA—the single most Cal player he’s ever had—born to isolate and take guys one on one, and no one at the NBA level can stop him. He showed talent here but Cal didn’t scratch the surface of his abilities. Simply because he wasn’t the highest rated player Cal signed in his class.

I kinda disagree with this. By midseason, Gilgeous-Alexander had pretty much taken the reigns of that team and was playing more minutes than anyone. And, like Devin Booker before him, he wasn't anywhere near his NBA version when he was here. Not so much because of Cal, but because he was a raw 18 year old who was scratching the surface of his talent.

Some guys -- Davis, Towns, Randle, Wall - were who they are when they stepped on campus. Gilgeous-Alexander wasn't, and frankly, he wasn't for his first three or four years in the league. It has been incremental development every year since 2018.

                        Derek Willis?? Grady? Wilcher?

                        Cal inherited Harrelson and Liggins

Then you have Orton ,Skal ,Goodwin, Kanter, Marcus Lee ,Mulder,Vanderbilt ,S. Sharpe ,Diallo, Nick Richards ,Boston, and Briscoe that came through and really never fit In but managed to play in the big leagues.

This list says one thing and one thing only. John Calipari is the most underachieving college basketball coach in the history of the game..

My all Cal Kentucky impact team would start with A. Davis, maybe Oscar second. Oscar was flat out dominate his first year.

Wall Cousins Knight Murray Monk with Randle Fox Herro Dillingham Sheppard honorable mention.

I’m kinda old. That was 7 years ago (had to look that up). I will not pretend to remember every detail. But it took Shai at least 1/3rd, maybe up to 1/2 that season to move ahead of QUADE GREEN in the starting lineup. Was this because Green was a better player at that moment, or because Green came in with more stars? Is there a chance Shai wasn’t what he is now because of guys like QUADE GREEN were being placed ahead of him in opportunities? Sure, he has progressed incredibly though. He’s made an OKC fan out of me.
