Oats deserves a ton of respect (with the exception of, you know, the covering up a murder part). He also came along right at the time John Calipari was fading, so he went against a kind of Shadow Cal as he was trying to assert himself in the SEC. That's good timing.
When comparing Oats to Pope in their careers it has to be said Nate Oats has now had five complete years in a power conference. Mark Pope has one and a half. If we're going to have Pope for a few years at Kentucky, you have to hope that he comes into his own and shows that he can win this league the way Oats has. They obviously have very similar offensive philosophies.
