Two things can be true at once.
Maybe so. I've tried to give him a break, but stuff keeps happening. I hope some how this incoming class will come together and be what they're supposed to be. Maybe Wagner will be the best PG ever, and Sheppard will light it up. GO CATS!!!

HOWEVER, I will say that we have been moving toward something like this for quite awhile. I think there are reasons it's as bad as it is--most on Cal, some not--but I did make a post four or five years on here that had a title with something like, "We Can't Keep Building Rosters Like This."

When the recruiting pipeline starts to dry up you can't just keep leaning on the old tricks. Cal didn't adapt. So yeah, that's part of why we're here.

It doesn't get at the whole shebang, though.

Cals first few classes were perfect storms. It seems we can see the bloom falling off the rose after Wisconsin, or North Carolina, or Kansas State, or.....

.maybe it's karma from all the laughter at Indiana.

Whatever it is, this current version of college ball is a different animal, and it seems UK has found itself on the short end.

The bothering thing is that last year with the returning POY and one of the top assist guys in the whole nation, things went sideways in some really disturbing ways for the fans, and Cals speaking style and mannerisms on court went from 'swaggy' to maddening.

My opinion, in a nutshell, is that no matter how much of this mess is Cal's fault he's getting paid a boatload of money to have the Cats performing at a high level. He's not done that lately, so he needs to step it up or hit the road.

            Pretty much.

Sort of reminiscent of the last couple years with Tubby. There was a lot of talk back then about how the boosters had turned away, Tubby wasn't getting any love from the fanbase, he was a much better coach than he'd ever gotten credit for, etc.

But there came a time when he just wasn't producing. The discussions we have on message boards and so on about the "why's" of what's happening with Cal won't matter in the end, just like they didn't matter back then with Tubby.

I thought last year was critical and, honestly, Cal kinda failed. Then he's failed way worse this offseason. There are reasons, some complicated and some pretty obvious...but in the end if doesn't really matter. This whole thing sucks.

I'll be beyond surprised if he's our coach past the 2024 season.

As a fan i can tolerate all the good bad and ugly as long as we are winning at a high level, problem is we are not. I saw something a few weeks ago in regards to most wins by D1 schools the past 5 years and i don't think we was even in the top 30, unacceptable on all fronts period....

Be our luck this incoming class will be the next FAB 5 they talk about for Decades moving forward and we will be stuck with Cal until he decides to walk. I would rather take one for the team see lose and give Cal the boot based on some made up technicality breach of lifetime contract....

                      No.

                      Never root against Kentucky. Ever.

And if this upcoming team becomes the Fab 5, talked about for decades, that would mean they were really good and more than likely won it all. Isn't that the goal? Why wouldn't we get back behind Cal if that happened?

Seems like Cal's goal is just to make the tournament these days plus these skinny physically undeveloped Freshman will get bullied when it counts....

To have a great season becomes Fool's Gold followed by 10 more years of below average 17-20 wins seasons same ol same ol junk garbage basketball on your knees praying to the basketball God's that come March IT ALL WORKS OUT AND MAGICALLY CLICKS, done with it...

On the bright side, who knows, maybe the new assistant coach can actually help get a good system in place if Cal will listen...

Anyways, all of this is very frustrating, it's bad when you feel defeated before the season even starts. Who knows, maybe Cal wins it all this year and rides off in the sunset and retires, would be a great ending if that was how it went down, everybody wins....

                          This is crazy.

The Fab 5 played for the national championship. Every one of us would take that every day of the week.

I hope to hear Cal use the words of Col. John "Hannibal" Smith which were “I love it when a plan comes together”

I also read that UK is not on Grant Nelson’s list.

Reminder to all the doom and gloom fans……

cals ‘lifetime’ contract is not for coaching. His coaching contract goes 5? more years. After that he can be athletics ambassador or whatever.

Obviously UK can extend it again and again…..they can also stomach him for 2 or 3 more years and then pay the buyout.
