Washington leaving would be very disappointing because he looked to be on the brink of stardom at times.

Still not convinced he's that close to the first round but maybe they're okay with the second round. Seems a pretty rash decision that's kind of unnecessary in a tough draft and it's hard to imagine a situation where they get to draft night and they're not disappointed (assuming he stays in).

I do think Washington can maybe have a career at some point, but it's not a sure thing. Was hard to get a feel for him this past season because he was so behind in so many crucial areas.

And jumping over to Rivals to check on this, it appears that the source was John Clay and that it was only his opinion.

ESPECIALLY given how weak next year's draft will be. Really makes no sense for PJ to go second round (which I still doubt) or undrafted when we could easily be a first round pick next year. Unless there is something else going on with him and Cal that we don't know about. Him leaving would be absolutely baffling.

It's going to be kind of a feeding frenzy at the end of the first round. Always is. So maybe a team likes Washington's tools and his strength and sees him as kind of an Ibaka type down the road or something.

But it will be a fight.

Honestly the biggest issue he has--consistency--might be forgiven more from NBA guys than it was by us. They may chalk that up to just youth. So in that way you might see a team take a flier on him. I doubt it, but all those guys at the end of the first and through the second round have flaws. Not a perfect player in there.

HE IS NO WHERE CLOSE TO IBAKA, NOT IN LENGTH, NOT IN SHOOTING, NOT IN RIM PROTECTION, NOTHING AT ALL. Of all of Cal's players who have left, early and is questionable, PJ is the riskiest of all. Teague could break your ankles, Lamb could shoot, the list goes on and on, PJ does nothing more than being a 4th or 5th option on a mediocre team.....

Washington actually has a longer wingspan than Ibaka.

But when you're comparing these players it's important to compare them when both players were 19 years old. Serge Ibaka averaged 6 points a game his rookie year.

I'm not saying that I think Washington is a pro now. But you can see some flashes that he could be a solid player in time. An NBA team might focus more on that; we focus more on his weaknesses.

And a lot of these NBA stars played on mediocre college teams. That won't matter much to these NBA execs IMO.

I don't like to get involved with my opinion of the decisions these kids make because none of us know who all are in their heads or what they're being told. I enjoy though, all the "informed" information some have and then how different things turn out to be. I hope they all come back, but if they don't next season will still happen, and we'll have stuff to discuss.

The very fact that we're having this discussion about our 5-6th people potentially leaving off an 11 loss team is a system failure. I don't begrudge a kid's choice, but something has gone wrong when guys who will not sniff an NBA uniform next year are bolting or transferring.

I'm sure that's his source. I read the same article. I think Clay is right except for Gabriel, I think he goes too.

Then let me say this, what few things PJ actually did do in college not happening in the big show..

If so, and the only returning players are JV (only because of injury) and Richards...man oh man, fans are really going to start losing it.

My thinking, for what it's worth, is that Gabriel and Green are gone. I'm not sure about Washington. Vanderbilt just about has to return because of the injury.
