Hopefully this pushes Gabriel to return. We could really use his experience next year, especially his shooting at that position.

        Yep.

There have been rumors for months that Gabriel is willing to play overseas. I hope he doesn't go that route. You could graduate from UK, try the NBA again after you graduate, and then go the foreign route. That way you're armed with the degree and you can play ball for a few years.

I've said this a hundred times now, but one-and-dones don't bother me nearly as much as situations like Gabriel.

Clear example of gambling and getting drafted on "potential". If Diallo goes to camp he ends up getting exploited and not drafted at all.....

PJ Washington's dad says they're looking for a first-round guarantee. Early second might be enough to keep PJ in. Doesn't sound like they're that open to anything lower.

Can't imagine they'll get a promise like that.

While I appreciate his father's sentiments, I have to wonder if he is doing this to couch the impact of not being a first rounder.

I have never heard if a team giving a player a 'written guarantee' to a player....especially one with no agent.

Leads me to believe the young man will return.

But I gave up holding my breath some time ago.

If Washington's dad is a coach and is expecting a first round guarantee, time to find a new line of work..........

I wonder if PJ and his father is willing to guarantee that PJ will be a good shooter who can hit free throws. a player who can learn how to play the 3 spot and handle the ball on the perimeter. If they are not comfortable with that, can they at least guarantee PJ will be the second coming of 6'5 Charles Barkley playing the PF in the NBA?

Im just going to say this and put it out there. I haven't smoked POT in many years since i was young and dumb but this stuff they smoking these days has these kids heads all messed up, must be the California genetically grown medical stuff that has some kind of brain stimulate in it or something. I have saw many names of what they call it now a days but it's clear to me they smoking a new brand called "SUPERMAN have you thinking you on top of the world" ............

Washington's just wildly inconsistent. Doesn't bring total effort all the time. Many freshmen don't. Most freshmen don't.

He's just testing where he'll go. Nothing wrong with that. I don't see how that equates to somebody's head being messed up.

No freshmen Cal has had has made a terrible choice w/r/t the draft. They've all gone in the first round or they've come back. These families and Cal and the players know the deal. I expect Washington and Vanderbilt to make the right decision because history shows that our freshmen under Cal have.

Everything I've read Washington's dad say so far has been spot on. They have no expectations, they want to test it out, they're just trying to see where he is. It's what the system is in place for.

I think it's great he's testing the waters for the reality and the brutal honest feedback he's going to get. To suggest he gets 1st round guarantee is crazy, he's not a 1st rounder at all and lucky to even be considered a 2nd rounder. Of course he's a freshman so he gets a pass but what's he really good at? There has to be at least one thing he's great at to even be considered a PRO but what is it? Do you think he's going to post on 7 foot athletic freaks at the next level and score? His defense isn't great, he's not long enough to defend bigger players, he's not a 6'7 Draymond Green, he can't guard permiter, what does he do at the next level??

Not everyone is a star in the NBA and you have role players . Role players are usually great at something like defense, shooting, passing, physical punishment, etc, I am just not sure what his role will ever be. I don't see him as a 1 or even 2 year player, he is a minimum 3 to 4 year player who must develop and get better in all parts of his game , he's nowhere even close to being NBA ready at this time. I think he could be a very good college player whe it's all said and done but he's along way from being a Paul Pierce type of player at his size and weight at this point....

That's just "Daddy talk." When my son was playing baseball, I could picture him hitting home runs for the Cardinals, but he turned out to be a fine Christian Businessman, Husband and Father. He had the talent, but not the desire, but my want for him was like PJ's Dad.

Once you're down at the end of the first round, it's all a crapshoot. So many guys in the last 35 to 40 picks who are basically hit or miss.

I agree that he won't be drafted where he wants to be, but testing things out isn't insane. Let's not make the guy out to be Mark Coury. He's got a pretty good future in the game and I think he will be a pro down the line at some point.

Right but the difference here is that it isn't that far off. PJ Washington, raw as he is, isn't just some random athlete. He's going to get some looks from some teams.

They're playing the game exactly the way they should. Millions of dollars are on the line. See what you need to work on and then come back if it doesn't work out. I feel the same with Vanderbilt.

I know i am being tough on PJ but the thought of him actually going pro after the season he had with all his undeveloped skills, that's crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
