And i am a 1000% sure he told SGA leave now and get the money because your stock will never ever be any higher than it is today, that's a fact. Coming back to college for SGA would have exploited him in my opinion. We've now heard reports that Cal actively re-recruited Green AND Knox.
And I'm sure he's told Washington, Gabriel, Vanderbilt, etc. that they should return if they don't get the right feedback from the combines.
Players leaving after two years to play overseas or transferring is a troubling trend, but I'm not sure what else Cal is supposed to do.

And that goes back to my first statement. Not missing on recruits doesn't guarantee anything. Duke has 1,2 & 3 next year. You willing to wager on if they win it all?Comment

I sort of agree with J.Jennings on that note.
I just don't think Cal felt like he would ever slip in recruiting. It seemed almost unimaginable: you get star players, you send them off to the NBA, rinse and repeat.
Then he began missing on those top five players, and yet the "send them off to the NBA" thing was still in effect. Because that's what you recruited them on.
To me it does come back to recruiting and the slippages there. Cal has very recently tried to remedy that. But when you start getting beat on the recruiting trail then the whole things get tilted.Comment

I agree which is why i feel you have to recruit some depth, players you can develop and keep around longer than one or two years. Not lobbying for a team for all instate kids but going back to our Championship teams, we actually had instate kids on those teams that made a impact......

On a positive note and something i do think will happen, i think Cal will figure it out, honestly i do. He's not dumb and the man don't like to lose. When he was talking about passing UCLA for Championships, it wasn't for us UK fans, it was for his own inner self, man is a competitor and hates to lose.....Comment

I don't think I missed it, but has Vanderbilt made an official decision about next year?John 3:3

One of the descriptions of the program has been that we take a business-like approach. We've seen the team meet at Cal's house often but I have wondered about his relationship with the players such that their "hangers-on" have more influence with players here than they do at other elite programs. Do the players see him simply as a coach or is their more to it than that? You can't completely mute those outside influences, but I do wonder how a guy like Quade Green, who was highly recruited, could suddenly entertain the idea of transferring to Lasalle of all places.
Guys like Diallo, Washington, Vanderbilt, Green should be looking at Calipari's suggestion as " a safe one" and the one that actually holds their best interests as a primary concern. I'm no longer sure that it's viewed that way.Comment

One reason could be that LaSalle is located in his hometown of Philadelphia. Another is he has a previous connection to new coach Ashley Howard.

Vanderbilt is probably the closest to the first round of those who have declared other than Shai or Knox.
Think he fits the new NBA model the best. Would be best served to come back and add something of an offensive game, but I would imagine there will be interest with him at least at the upper half of the second round.
He's the third guy on this team I think I could safely say will have an NBA career at some point. Not sure Washington will. Wenyen or Diallo might never put on the uniform.Comment
