There's a number of films that are otherwise fantastic except for the ending. The two that immediately come to mind are:

"Seven", with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt
    "The Changeling" with Angelina Jolie

Another very good movie (a bit methodical in pace, but still good) is "Wildlike" starring Bruce Greenwood and Ella Purnell. The ending of this film is unexpected and leaves you wondering what transpired.

Purnell portrays an under-age teenager sent to Alaska by her mother to live with an uncle she barely knows. Her mother is a drug addict in rehab. The uncle is a slimeball who tries to have a sexual relationship with his niece. She flees and eventually seeks refuge with Bruce Greenwood, who is vacationing in the wilds of Alaska.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

One of the weirder endings I've seen is Enemy, the Dennis Villenueve film.

The Seven ending was great. We saw Pitt become the last of the deadly sins. He did what any of us would have without thinking of playing into the killers plan.

Baffling ending. Even some post-viewing research on possible meanings didn't make much sense to me.

And whoever said that the "Seven" ending was a disappointment is wrong. That's one of the finest endings in the thriller genre. "WHAT'S IN THE BOX?"

          Anyway...

"The Girl On The Train" - Boy, this was a dud, and I enjoyed the source material. Emily Blunt tries her hardest with a brave, gonzo performance, but to no avail. The director had obviously never seen a thriller. Limp and boring would be the best words to describe this. The film hits almost all of the novel's beats (slavishly) and the actors are all fine, but there is absolutely no life to this picture. It just sort've plods along until the climax (which worked better on the page than on the screen), and then it evaporates. As I was watching, I wondered how much better the film would have been with a proven director behind the camera (David Fincher being the obvious choice, seeing as how he has made a career of adapting popular mystery novels). Skip.

Saw a sneak peek of "Dr. Strange" last week and I left really excited for this one. It looks like it's going to be another Marvel hit, akin to how Guardians was received. I hope so, anyway.

Not a huge superhero guy but Logan looks pretty amazing.

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) begins his final battle in the trailer for Logan, the final X-Men movie featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolvie.

The Exorcist, is an interesting film and one of the type of film categories I like.

I'm so tired of superhero flicks that even the good stuff looks blah to me.

Was glancing at the trailer and first thought Jackman was Mel Gibson. It looks to have great potential. That said, more and more I'm hesitant to go see a movie unless the trailer is outstanding. With the short scene shots that are now the norm in movies, trailers are even moreso - like merely a second or less at times and you have not a clue what it might be about, so you're left with searching for a synopsis or summary of the movie.

That's a shame, seeing as how there was only one worth watching.

With ticket prices what they are these days, I'll only pay to see a movie if the reviews on rottentomatoes are overwhelmingly positive.

I don't trust trailers, especially for action movies and horror movies. Anybody can cut a decent trailer, even if the movie is awful.
