Where are you getting all these nicknames? I thought I knew a lot about sports, but you sure are stumping me. I love this Thread!!!John 3:3

When I was really into professional sports, my three favorite teams were the Baltimore Colts, the Boston Celtics and the Dodgers (first in Brooklyn and later in LA). Most of the ones I'm posting played on one of those three teams. Some of the others are ones that are so well known most people, that have been fans for any length of time, would probably remember. For example, the only exposure I had to the Cubs was when they played the Dodgers, but still when I hear the moniker Mr. Cub, I immediately think of Ernie Banks. While my memory is fading, somewhat, I can remember trivial things. I love music, and can tell you the name of a song, and who recorded it, if it's from the '50's, '60's or '70's by just hearing a little of the lyrics. My wife says I'm a fountain of useless information.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 1Comment

I looked it up. I would have never gotten that one. There was an actual hurricane a few years before that with his last name. Here's the link to his SABR biography.

Smokey (strong hint: much better known for his accomplishments as a manager as opposed to his playing career).Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

^ I lbelieve you aregoing for Walter Alston. Longtime Dodger manager who made the HOF. he had exactly one at bat as a player. There was also Smokey Burgess who I think played for the Reds among other teams. A good pinch hitter in his time.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

Walter Aston is the man. He managed the Dodgers 30+ years and never signed a contract that was for longer than one season at a time.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment
