    Name Recognition

The song from the 60's, "The Name Game" got me to thinking about some people that are/were so well-known that if you said their first name only or, in some cases, a nickname most people would know who you're talking about. If anyone's interested, let's make a little game out of this. I'll start it off, then whoever correctly guesses who I'm talking about lists a first name or a nickname and so on and so forth.

In my lifetime I have heard this most often in reference to Mike Tyson; but I assume Mike Ditka is the answer you are looking for.

Actually, Mike Tyson was the answer I was looking for. Perhaps, we should include the person's area of expertise along with their name or nickname.

Good guess, but no cigar, Lighthouse. A hint: he played his college ball in a southwestern state.

I think it is Elvin Hayes. He played for Houston. When I first read your hint I thought it said that He played at "Southwestern State". That had me thinking a bit but then I re-read it.

You are correct, it is Elvin "Big E" Hayes. If I'm not mistaken, yours is Walter Payton the great RB of the Chicago Bears.
