If no one gets it, you may want to drop a hint later on, Lighthouse. I can think of two former NFL players and one MLB player who were call the secretary of defense. There may have been others as well.

I would be interested in both NFL players, but I'n referring the MLB guy.

The football players are former Redskin standout Dexter Manley and David "Deacon" Jones, a player who was recently listed in this thread, was also known as The Secretary Of Defense. If I'm not mistaken, the baseball player you're thinking of is Garry Maddox.

Gary Maddox is right. The saying went that two thirds of the earth is covered by water and the other third by Gary Maddox.

I can't remember the name now. Eddie something er nother. They were a softball team that went around playing local yocals and usually beating them badly. I think they only used a limited number of players. I saw them one time after a minor league game in Prince WIlliam, Virginia. The local team beat them that night IIRC.

The last name is spelled Feigner. I believe it's pronounced Fainer. They only used four players. Besides Eddie, they had a Catcher, First Baseman and a Shortstop. The guy was pretty amazing. I saw him on tv once, and one of the things he did was strike batters out pitching from his knees behind Second Base.

A side note on this. The guy who played shortstop, and sometimes outfield for this outfit, played some shortstop for me when I coached the Kentucky Bourbons. The last I heard of him/her, he was playing on a women's baseball team in Florida.
