Clue: the tracks to the NFL ran through Purdue University for this fullback.

Apparently, this is more difficult than I intended it to be. I'm going to give one more clue and if no one comes up with the correct answer, I'll post it later today. While no Marshawn Lynch, or Dez Bryant, this former NFL fullback was pretty good at running with and catching the ball as well as blocking for others.

Mike Alstott would be my guess based on the Purdue hint.

How about Goose. Not the UK version as that would be too easy.

Rich Gossage for Goose. I still have no idea on the football player. I even looked it up and still couldn't find anyone except for the one LH said. In basketball the A-Train was Artis Gilmore.

Catfaninin nailed it. Mike Alstott is the name I was looking for. Mike spent his entire NFL career (12 seasons) with the Bucs.

If it's baseball, I agree with you on Gossage. He may be looking for an old Kentucky Colonels bb player by the name of Jim "Goose" Ligon.

Nope, Gossage was who I had in mind. Think there is another who played for the Globetrotters but I couldn't remember his name.

I think that one was Goose Tatum.

Here's an old one, The Gallopin' Ghost.

That would be one "Red" Grange who played several seasons for the Chicago Bears. If I'm not mistaken, he also spent a season or two with the New York Yankees.

I couldn't find Grange listed in Retrosheet.org. George Halas did play one year for the Yankees in 1919. Maybe he's the one one you are thinking about?
