For my last pick I am taking a big man from a national championship team. He was "the other" 6-10 man on the 78 team. I am taking Mike Phillips. Phillips scored over 1300 points in his career and averaged about 8 rebounds a game. He was a mainstay at center for four years at UK. He played in two national championship games and won one of them. Also played on an NIT winner in 76. When Joe B Hall benched three of his starters at halftime against Florida State in the 78 NCAA tournament, Phillips, along with Macy, stayed in the lineup and help lead a comeback to save the season. Phillips could have been a star at other schools but was satisfied to just be a valuable cog for years. I was surprised he lasted this long in our draft but except for us old guys on WCN he is mostly forgotten now. Sadly he passed away just over a year ago as a result from a fall at his home.

With my 8th and final pick I had a tough decision. I want a backup guard who is tough, can protect the ball, and score if necessary. I was tempted to take Ramel Bradley, but he's not the type of guy I think my team needs. I was close to taking a fan favorite who could handle the ball in Jarrod Polson and calling it a night but decided to do a little more digging on previous teams. I'm glad I did because I never thought of this guy during this draft but he is the perfect guy for some backup minutes and giving a productive 10 or 15 minutes a game. I'm selecting Patrick Sparks.

This last round has been brutal. I've had 3 of my last round ideas taken just before my turn! I've got a couple backup bigs and so I've got to go with my man...Ramel Bradley. He would make a solid backup for Rondo. Guys, I like my team....lets ball!
PG: Rondo
SG: Meeks
SF: Issel
PF: Randle
C: Magloire
Bench:
Morris

Johnny Mauer
Adolph Rupp
Joe B. Hall
Eddie Sutton
Rick Pitino
Tubby Smith
Billy Gillespie ( I know he's really not relevant)
John Calipari
Since there are 11 of us drafting we wouldn't have enough unless you threw in three assistants that were considered really good. Such as Leonard Hamilton, Billy Donovan,John Robic etc....Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

I had thought about having a pool of coaches we could draft. There have only been 8 head coaches that have been what you could call relevant since UK had a basketball team. They are:
Johnny Mauer
Adolph Rupp
Joe B. Hall
Eddie Sutton
Rick Pitino
Tubby Smith
Billy Gillespie ( I know he's really not relevant)
John Calipari

I think the idea was to choose whichever coach you like regardless of availability, then make the case that your team is stronger because of that coach (e.g., this team would be a juggernaut running Cal's DD; these disciplined players matched with Tubby's fundamentals would be very hard to beat; these guys running Pitino's press would run roughshod over everyone). That sort of thing.Comment
