Also Auburn lost again, so a win against Tennessee would put us into that swarm of teams vying for first.

Alabama goes to Georgia Wednesday and I'm gonna wager they lose that game.

Like others I'm concerned about how all our 7 footers affect our offense. It looks like Onyenso is the closest to helping, but that's on the defensive end and mainly with rebounding. But it seems like Cal has one in the game all the time.

I summoned the courage to look at the NET this morning and...

Kentucky is at #26. That's still safe from the dreaded bubble, but now we've whiffed on one of our big chances at a resume win. We're probably sliding toward the 6/7 seed at this point...which, again, is unfathomable if you think about where we were just a couple of weeks ago.

Not that any of that matters. A team that plays defense like we do would never get out of the first round.

Any concerns we don’t make the tournament? We could have 10 losses.

In likelihood, no. There will be a metric crap ton of teams hovering around ten losses and we will probably end up having a couple of really good wins.

Our seed line, on the other hand? Woof.

The win against North Carolina alone might firewall us against missing the tournament...

...unless we just collapse, which is definitely possible at this point.

If Wagner remains out and Mitchell is hurt like it looks like, there are 5 games remaining that we likely cannot win. Which would make us 5-5 in our last 10 with 11 losses overall. That's probably not gonna get it done.

Auburn handled Alabama easily last night so we've got the dreaded 4-team tie atop the SEC.

Kentucky finds itself tied for 5th with three teams, which means...well, we've got some work to do if we want any shot at the double bye in the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky also has the tough task of having to go to Auburn and to Tennessee in the last three weeks of the season, making the Alabama game at Rupp on February 24th a virtual must-win.

I would say at least three of those teams will have 4+ losses when the regular season ends, but Kentucky might have 6 losses...thus putting us in the situation we're in now.

Well as of game time Saturday Gonzaga is a Quad 1 opportunity. Currently sit at 26.

Somehow through it all Kentucky is hovering around where they've been for the past month in the NET: 24th. That's probably in that 8/9 range in terms of seeding.

They have a massive opportunity for a resume win on Saturday but it's gonna be a tall order. Auburn is not a great match-up for us and they're super tough at home. Would be beyond shocked if we got that one.

Kentucky up only 3 spots to 21st in the NET.

What's weird about UK is we have a very solid road record compared to a lot of the top seeds. Best-case scenario is we keep winning on the road and that offsets our lack of Quad 1 wins.

Still a ton of basketball to be played. Kentucky has two of its biggest games of the season still left.

No one is immune. Creighton just thumped UConn by a 19

It was actually worse than the final score.

Somehow Kentucky won that game last night, a 6th (should be 7 but Florida slipped out based on what somebody else did Monday night) Quad 1 win, and yet...we didn't move up a spot in the NET. We stayed the exact same #19.

Makes you wonder if we didn't move up because we only won by 2 points. Which is what Scott Van Pelt went in on last night on ESPN in a conversation about whether the Big 12 has hacked the NET.

In short: if the NCAA committee is using the NET, and they most surely are, then they don't need to be. It neither needs to be replaced or they should just go with Kenpom.

I've argued this for a while, even before NET rankings. All rankings can and are skewed. We've seen Wisconsin lose 4 games in a row this season and still be ranked. Duke did it last year or the year before. Once conference play begins, its really about losing gracefully to fellow ranked teams so you don't drop and beating one occasionally that's ranked ahead of you. Then the conference teams can just leap frog around the top-25. See last years Big12. Same thing is happening this year.

Clemson Tigers coach Brad Brownell isn't happy about how Big 12 teams approach out-of-conference scheduling. Does he have a point? SVP investigates.

Does it really matter what the NET or Kenpom says? The NCAA is going to favor the same teams every year, and Kentucky isn't one of them.
