Show me the money is the main recruiting attraction.

Duke has had teams every bit as big a favorite as UK has had that have fallen short of a title. There’s always some luck involved in a title run. For the time being at least we can hope things go our way.

Unfortunately it takes nothing more than a very minimal injury for a player’s agent to decide to shut him down. And that can quickly derail a team’s dreams. That’s where Cal has lost control. And that’s where “players first program” has gone awry. Well, that AND the fact that it’s really only a “lottery pick player’s first program.” Anyone else, pro scouts aren’t drooling over you, good luck at your next school. You weren’t players first material.

No players (at least the sort Kentucky scouts) are going to schools for "pomp and circumstance." The name on the front of the jersey is a (far) second (Third? Fourth?) to money and professional prospects.

For better or worse, those days are over, and not surprisingly you can block the reactions to it into three camps: the old guard who are holding onto the college basketball of yesteryear; the middle guard (like me) who understands and accepts the deal, but doesn't like it much; and the young guard who has no problem with it, because they don't know any different.

Likee everything, time will pass and the next generations will look at college basketball of yesteryear like they do a world without cell phones or internet or milk men and black and white TVs. Archaic and unbelievable.

More than in game adjustments or fan interactions, what shocks me about Calipari has been his relative inability or unwillingness to adjust to this new business model. Especially considering how ahead of the curve he was regarding recruiting when he came here. He might be making the right moves now, but is it too late?

Contrary to what you may think, I have no problems with you, but when you make silly comments you shouldn't be surprised when you get called on it. I don't care if you have Wildcat Nation tenure . If I make silly comments, I hope you call me on it, too.

You have a myopic view of John Calipari, and that's fine, but I'd argue that it doesn't even accout for fifty percent of our fan base, taking everything into consideration. There isn't just "somebody" that likes Cal; there's probably a whole LOT of someones.

KC, my comments about pomp and circumstance were in reference to our status of NBA factory ie The Kentucky Effect

You think my comment was silly, well I don't! I put out the bait and you bit. All of us have comments that others disagree with, and that leads to good discussion. But we hardly ever call each other on them. OBTW, my eyesight is very good, ask several coaches.

                Ah.

Even still, I'm not sure if that matters as much. Most of these guys have found out that they can end up in the league no matter where they play. So they're going to make a business decision first and foremost, re: Dickinson, Hunter.

I think Cal assumed that the NBA factory tag alone would be enough to pull kids away from lucrative NIL deals. This summer has shown him that that isn't enough. Hence the "La Familia" or whatever hes calling it. I don't buy that this collective was a thing that has been in the works for a year. It was a last second pivot when he found himself getting jilted by transfers repeatedly.

A few years ago we saw some big recruits going to schools that weren’t traditional powers, get the same coverage and succeed in terms of the draft a la Trae Young and Cade Cunningham, and saw UK become a little less necessary. Then came Nil and here we are

Yep. Which is why I can't believe Cal wasn't better prepared.

He let the staff become weak for a few years and probably rested on his laurels for a while, after signing the contract, and I just think the competition caught up

50 y/o Cal was prepared for just about anything. 64 y/o Cal? About like a 55 y/o Tubby. Went Easy Street there for a while and is now attempting to catch up.

I was wondering the same thing. The UK website has nothing.

I'm just hoping Canadian legend Dom Papa returns as the sideline reporter.
