Like KC said, Sandy Bell knows all about all recruits and could be the reason Wiseman never made it to UK. Not all decisions are Cals.

Tyler Ulis’ brother transferring from Iowa, enters portal. That’s all, I’m not saying anything about UK, just before mid-season I didn’t realize his brother went there.

Sahvir Wheeler officially enters the portal. Ratt goes crazy.

This is not surprising. I wish it could have ended differently. I like Wheeler.

100% - Happy that's it's finally over. He 100% quit on his team and in typical Cal fashion - he protected him. There is no convincing me of anything else. Will Cal ever over-protect and over-play a kid as much as he has Wheeler???? I still have my assumptions why but I'll keep them to myself..... Such a happy day, think I'll go get some lunch.

HOWEVER - just because I don't like the player, I wish him luck in his next adventure and future.

So what actually happened with Sahvir? Did he have conflict with another player? Obviously he quit or was essentially kicked off of the team on the hush-hush. Anyone know the truth here?

Call me crazy, but if you have a team that's built right I thought he could be serviceable and effective here. If he's the 4th or 5th best guy on the court you can make do. I think he played hard for us. I will say that I don't think that the former PG-U should be without an elite pg long enough to have him 2 years in a row, but that's a different discussion.

I don't think it's that complicated. He kept playing him because he was the point guard of a 30-win team the year before and had led the nation in assists.

Not too hard to figure out really.

The Sahvir Wheeler we saw in the Bahamas was really good. I actually thought Wheeler was probably the best player on the team that week.

The Sahvir Wheeler we saw when the season started was a shell. Borderline awful. I don't know if he just did nothing over the summer, if something was going on upstairs, or what. I think Cal absolutely did give him too much rope when it was clear he was struggling but I don't read anything malicious or nefarious in it. On a team with that many issues that was just one of many.

As for what happened afterward we'll likely never know. I would've liked to have had him as a back-up in a couple games but I doubt it would've changed anything.

^ FTR, that post was in reference to Ratt's post, not Matt's.

I'll get to Batt's points later.

Since he is a graduate transfer he can play next season.

In all seriousness, Wheeler was a completely serviceable point guard for us ltwo years ago, even with his limitations.

I think what you saw this year was a completr breakdown in confidence. He was playing poorly, the team was riddled with holes, he didnt fit well with the other pieces, Cal Gave him too much rope, and it all fell apart when he was injured and we improved..

He DID have an attitude when he lost playing time, and Cal DID sit him out to protect him from the fans. The kid essentially quit without quitting. I think it was better towards thr end when both parties came to an understanding that the relationship was over, but it was a violatiile situation for about a month.
