Question with this incoming freshman class. When I think of the freshman I think Wagner Bradshaw but have I somehow been sleeping on Edwards? They say that Edward's already projected #1 pick NBA in the early mock drafts, the gem of our class...

As much as I hate to admit it, Cal pulled a rabbit out his ...... Hat this off-season.

Calipari would be the kind of teammate you love but also want to choke the crap out him sometimes...

I will say this,Kentucky basketball is no different than my other teams i follow ride or die for better or worse,, 49ers Dodgers Celtics. One thing in common all these fanbases expect titles year in year out, no exceptions. When organizations make roster moves fans go crazy wondering what is going on most of the time but in the end the talent is there to compete at a high level. Simply it boils down to the coaching, we need Calipari at his best on top of his game this year.

I tend to think Edwards will be the best of the group. I also don't really have any reservations about Wagner. You never know if a star freshman is really going to be a "star" or if he's just gonna be really good (there's a chasm between those two things); that usually depends on what's between the ears and how hard he works when he gets here. But just based on things I've read and seen, I think Edwards and Wagner will produce for us.

Bradshaw and Dillingham are much harder to get a read on. With Bradshaw you have the thing about young big men: the old adage is that young big men don't really come into their own until at least their second year. As we've seen at Kentucky that isn't always the case, but the way Bradshaw plays and his skillset makes you wonder if he's more a "skill guy" (like Skal) and the toughness of the old players in this game might bother him. Dillingham's size and his propensity for being a gun will have to be coached--and as we know, some young players aren't as open to coaching as others.

And neither here nor there, but I actually thought Cason Wallace was a star last year. As rough as the team was I thought Wallace was one player who jumped out at you consistently through the year as a player who could carry the team if the others got out of his way. If DJ Wagner and/or Dillingham is in that echelon of player then we'll be fine at guard.

^ With Reeves returning I probably agree, but I think you gotta have Wagner being ready to rock and also have to have Dillingham able to produce at this level. It’s a guard heavy game and Wagner will need help.

We also need Edwards to be a star.

Not to derail this conversation, but this silly thread is 106 pages long. That’s where we’re at as a program. Ugggggghhhhh

I may regret saying this but i actually feel pretty good about the team and the roster. Been pretty tough on Cal but with the Transfer portal NIL and NBA, tough for any coach to navigate.....

The center position is a MASSIVE question mark. And the four position too if Bradshaw is gonna pull a Vanderbilt.

Team sorta looks like the 2015-16 team with Ulis and Murray (on paper). Solid guardplay but big question marks inside.

I do like the idea of finally having a rim protector, but Ugo, man...that's just a really raw player we're going to have to count on to play a ton of minutes.

I know what you mean. Building this roster has been a cluster. But the 106 page thread is MUCH better than apathy.

Still blows my mind both Collins and Ware left the program. Had one of the other came back, doubtful Mitchell is at Kentucky so it's give and take but either one of those returning makes you feel a little better about the inside depth. Like you say, if Bradshaw pulls a Vanderbilt and Ugo just isn't ready or gets injured, small ball it is and we just going to have to live with it....

This team will be a challenge but probably fun to watch, at least early. I expect Ugo to play some early, but fade to the bench when Cal gets tired of him getting pushed around. I hope I'm wrong about him because we need his length inside. I'm puzzled by how some are saying Bradshaw may be another Vanderbilt. Why is that? I expect Reeves, Wagner & Billingham to do well at guard with defense being something to work on. I still believe Sheppard will get some PT.

Do you remember Vanderbilt and the mysterious foot injury?

I do for sure, but this kid had surgery didn't he?

He’s saying he doubts Mitchell would’ve committed to UK if either of those other players were still here.
